It's pretty simple. He asked for something we didn't feel he was worth. Same as Gilbert Edmund. Same as Burch. It's not "can't". It's "won't".How can we afford Rocket Sanders, the #2 RB and #19 player overall in the portal, but can't afford Anderson?

very easy. Rocket Sanders is a top 10-20RB in CFB. Anderson 30-50RB. 10-20 pulls a higher $ than 30-50. It wasn't that we could afford him. It's we didn't offer what he thought he was worth. How can we afford Rocket Sanders, the #2 RB and #19 player overall in the portal, but can't afford Anderson?

There is no substantiation with NIL. The only thing you can do it triangulate info. As you said, somehow we can afford Rocket but not Mario. It's been said that Mario hired an agent after he got our offer, then hit the portal. We can't afford to keep Gilbert Edmund but we can be in the thick of competition with Bama for LT Overton? That guy isn't showing up for an official unless he knows we're going to compete. You can't, and shouldn't, keep everyone. Some guys think they're more valuable than they are. FSU learned that the hard way with Bell/Edmund.hmmmm, any substantiation?
We didn't know, but the staff knew. That's easy to speculate, but we don't know, of course. And, when he said he was entering, we had no idea about Sanders. We didn't know we had a backup plan at the time.
He's much more valuable to a place like Memphis than he is SoCal/OU. Memphis can shake down FedEx folks for that money. So if it is indeed the case that he was overvaluing himself for us, what are the odds SoCal and OU will find him that valuable? And what are the odds Memphis can meet his price?
Just doesn't make sense.

It’s easy to speculate because it’s true. We know there is more money to go around. It’s always about allocation. If we couldn’t afford him, we might as well just go all in on winning tennis championships .That's easy to speculate, but we don't know, of course. to the $ amount no. But if you want to take that angle, no one knows anything.Do you know how much NIL money we have?
I always laugh at the "coach them up" thing. For some reason, every fan base thinks their coaches are going to take three stars and "coach them up" to the point they will beat the teams loaded with four and five stars. I guess the assumption is; the teams with the higher rated recruits is just going to put them on the field and let them play with the same technique, strength and conditioning and knowledge they had in high school. In related news, our current recruiting class (based on AVERAGE stars), is ranked 15th in the nation. Not bad, imho. Now, just need to coach them up.
Hope Edmund enjoyed 2nd string this year in TallahasseeThere is no substantiation with NIL. The only thing you can do it triangulate info. As you said, somehow we can afford Rocket but not Mario. Wait a minute. Go back and read over what I said. Forget it, I'll take the time to re-write: I wrote "need to coach them up". Does that imply that they WILL coach them up? Of course not. EVERY coaching staff does not have that kind of ability. Not all are equal.. You ended your statement saying that "the higher rated recruiting classes ARE getting 'coached up' too". Really????? Do you think that Texas A&M's highly rated recruiting classes were "coached up"?I always laugh at the "coach them up" thing. I have news for you. The higher rated recruiting classes are getting "coached up" too.
I'm not in the know, but maybe Rocket would have gotten the lion's share of NIL, and Mario wanted more. I think if Mario would have took whatever number he was offered, it would have changed our approach to the RB room. In reality they both should have been on this roster. Best of luck to Mario. How can we afford Rocket Sanders, the #2 RB and #19 player overall in the portal, but can't afford Anderson?
That would be crazynot sure
hope it's true. i'm anti-portal but it would be epic if we got a massive upgrade and he ended up Memphis.
JC said NIL wasn't a driving factor. It was more his relationship with Logg and Stepp. I'm sure he's getting enough. But doesn't sound like we were in some kind of bidding war.I'm not in the know, but maybe Rocket would have gotten the lion's share of NIL, and Mario wanted more. Understood you point about relationships with Rocket. I was more so speculating Mario's request would have made things tight from an NIL standpoint with a top back like Rocket on the roster. When I heard Stepp was his recruiter at his prior school and Loggains was on staff recently. I figured relationships would be a factor. Thanks..JC said NIL wasn't a driving factor. Correct answer! It's pretty simple. He asked for something we didn't feel he was worth. Same as Gilbert Edmund. Same as Burch. It's not "can't". It's "won't".
Only takes one team to overvalue him.So if it is indeed the case that he was overvaluing himself for us, what are the odds SoCal and OU will find him that valuable? And what are the odds Memphis can meet his price?
Just doesn't make sense.
It would make sense that we simply couldn't meet his price, so we went looking at bigger schools. But then it doesn't make sense that Memphis is in the mix and doesn't make sense that we can afford Sanders.
It would make sense if he was just asking for more than we thought he was worth, even though we could afford it, But it doesn't make sense that SoCal or OU would find him that valuable if we did not.
Sounds right to meI'm not in the know, but maybe Rocket would have gotten the lion's share of NIL, and Mario wanted more. “serviceable”?I think Sanders is a serviceable RB but tell me if he is an outstanding RB why was he in the portal.
Most of the Heisman winners over the last 10 years have transferred. Are you suggesting they weren't outstanding players?I think Sanders is a serviceable RB but tell me if he is a outstanding RB why was he in the portal.

Transfer QBs off the top of my head that were the center of their team’s success in the past few years. Burrow, Ewers, Hurts (OU), and Fields. They all left bc they were down on the depth chart. How many were QB's ? Some only won because they were surrounded by great players and the team had a great winning record . Put Rattler on one of the playoff teams and he could have won it this year. Also a big difference between now & pre-portal.
The last couple were during the portal era and will be top 5 draft picks. You are full if crap. How many were QB's ? All those and Murray the Heisman winner at OU, Hartman at ND. I expect Gabriel, Will Rogers, Riley Leonard and Kyle McCord to do well where they land.Transfer QBs off the top of my head that were the center of their team’s success in the past few years. Of course not. Prolific poster who is nothing but unsubstantiated opinion/prayer/hope.hmmmm, any substantiation?
Unless you want us to believe Memphis is a better situation than RB1 in the SEC. But it wouldn’t surprise if you think that. This kind of proves my point.Of course not. Prolific poster who is nothing but unsubstantiated opinion/prayer/hope.
Yeah. Texas and Nebraska were both after a DE portaling out of TCU. Nebraska offered more. Texas is rich, it could match, but then all the starters on the d-line would be "why is that guy making more than us?" So you have to either have discontent on the team or have to raise everyone. Nebraska could get away with paying the guy more than others on the team. It wasn't that Texas couldn't do it, it was they wouldn't do it.It's pretty simple. He asked for something we didn't feel he was worth. Same as Gilbert Edmund. Same as Burch. It's not "can't". It's "won't".

I don't disagree with the idea of coaching players up. I should preface by saying that I assume our coaches and all college coaching staffs, have the ability to "coach up" HS players above their abilities when they step on campus. Therefore, I assume ALL teams are coaching up the recruits they bring on campus.Wait a minute. Go back and read over what I said. Forget it, I'll take the time to re-write: I wrote "need to coach them up". Does that imply that they WILL coach them up? Of course not. EVERY coaching staff does not have that kind of ability. There's no guarantee that we have the coaches to get the most out of the talent on hand. Did we do so this past season? I'd say we did not. I'm not sure we have the coaching staff, as it is currently, to do so. Is Beamer going to replace some of the 2023 coaches, as some other teams already have? I don't know. If he does, will he replace them with quality coaches who CAN "coach them up"? I don't know.
If you disagree with anything in my response to you, I'd like to know.
