Yeah, I looked at their offensive numbers in Kenpom and their offense is ranked worse than our defense....that's can't be good. They have the lowest ranked offense (75th) in the top 35 teams on Kenpom. I've always been a Pitino fan (secret...I didn't even dislike him that much when he was at UL) because he got to UK when I was in 7th grade....prime fandom as a kid.

Yeah.......very one sided. ELITE defense. Very good.

But.......as we've seen in one and done tournaments.........the one sided teams also tend to be the ones that get bounced earlier than their seed would suggest they do.

They did shoot it well vs Uconn the other day tho.

It was funny listening to Pitino during the in game interview. He knows they can't shoot. But he's like "well we just need to not air ball it so we can get into our offense" lol. Because it's true. They are very good at offensive rebounding. They also take good care of the ball on offense. So there are still some things they do well on offense.

Same. Pitino is how I got into UK bball.

My cousin when I was little took me to MSG during one of those holiday tournaments. We were going to see St Johns but the game before that UK was playing. I fell in love with the style of play and been a UK fan ever since

Sign me up for St Johns winning the title and then Ricky P retiring to become the greatest assistant coach ever for Pope.

My first Pitino game was when UK played UNC at Freedom Hall in his first season. Tarheels ended up winning 121-110. UNC was up 17 at half and was pulling away in the 2nd half and had all of their starters out. UK went on a huge run and Dean pointed to the bench and all 5 starters got up to come into the game. The crowd went nuts that they had to put their starters back in.

Kentucky shot 48 3 pointers that game.

Amazing Pitino was banished to Greece and Iona for years when any major conference program could've hired him and pretty much assured themselves of historic success.

Guess they didn't want the blue checks on X to write mean articles about them for a week, though. Too big of a price to pay for an ATG coach.

Id be happy. I'd also start to believe that he's just as good as Coach K, who everyone just considered the GOAT. I'd feel very confident in saying that Pitino has proven himself as the modern day best coach out there, and it'd be hard to argue. Title at UK, UofL and then St. John's. Tournament appearances at Iona. Won the leagues in Greece.
Yeah. If he wins a title at a dead program like StJohns… He has an argument to be made for the GOAT. Wooden, Rupp, K prob all likely still win the argument due to total titles, influence on the game etc. But winning at 3 different programs, all of which had to be program rebuilds, would be insanely impressive (yes I know UL is vacated). + the Greece championship

But him winning one this year is a major hypothetical at this point

Win it and come back to UK as a GM.

Once Kentucky is out of the tournament, I don’t watch any more basketball games. I have done it for years, now that should tell you how much March Madness I have watched the last few years. I guess I would be happy for Pitino, but they won’t win it, they shoot like crap from 3.
I normally do not watch after UK is ousted either, but if St. Johns was playing one of the dreaded teams of the evil empires I would watch rooting feverishly for St. Johns.

It's either K , Wooden, or Rupp. There's arguments for all 3. But it's those 3 n just those 3. But to say it's silly to call K the goat is just bias ignorance.

If Rivk wins a title this year then he's either in that group or right even with Knight right on bubble
It is Wooden and no one is even close! 10 straight championships. UCONN recently winning two straight was considered great. If someone were to win 10 straight, people would freak out, yet that is what Mr John Wooden did.

Once UK is eliminated, my interest goes to zero. I can't remember the last time I watched more than a few minutes of any Final Four or championship game that didn't involve UK.

I think I’d be pulling for him and happy.

If he wins another title, he might be considered the best ever. I’d rather him have that title than Coach K.
Just imagining what would have happened if Pitino had stayed here and never left. He’d be on year 36 right? How many more championships would he have had? Would the issues he had at Louisville have happened here in some capacity or another? A Karen Sypher type thing or the rogue assistant thing?
