If Stoops is a success

If Stoops succeeds here, what are you thoughts on him going forward? Would he stay long term and enjoy the success he built or would he leave for a "bigger" job? Would Barnhart get any credit for the hire?

Anyway, have a lovely day.

I think that when the record for coach Stoops begins to approach his success in recruiting, then he will be here long term. If the damn fans will just give him the chance to really get this rolling. I have heard people say that it takes 5 or 6 years to turn a program around. Well with him being a "new" head coach, I can see that. Sure a proven coach could have done it quicker I think, but I am happy with the direction we are heading. The coaching hires this year really have me encouraged. I can't wait to find out who will take coach Buh's spot.

I think will stay long term if he is successful. I think the only job he might take would be the OSU job if it opened up and he was very successful here. He wants to stay close to his roots in Ohio. UK is the best fit for that.

who knows? there is no answer to that kind of hypothetical other than to say if he is successful then all efforts will be made for him to make it a career in blue and let's hope he does.

No one really knows the answer to that question about any head coach. If/when he is successful to get attention from other programs I think there are a couple that would make me nervous as a UK fan. The first is tOSU, it's home, a program he probably was a fan of at a young age, the second would be Iowa, it's where he played and his second home. Of course if Bama, SoCal or a couple of more of the traditional powers came calling he would have to listen but those first 2 would be the most concerning. Nothing like the call home for alot of people.

I think few of us personally know Coach Stoops to guess what he would do and spit balling answers guided by what we would do.

If I was able to take a university such as Kentucky and make it a successful football school I would stay. But with that has to come the salary, and perks of traditional powerhouses.

In terms of successful what are we speaking of? Consecutive bowl games? Playing for division championships, or playing for the national championship? I think if you consider being successful as playing for championships and able to do that at UK then you would be crazy to leave unless the money isn't on par.

I think he leaves for another school if success is consecutive bowl games. If he was to plateau and not win a division championship or SE C ca hampionship he would leave. At that point you would have a successful coach needing a school with deeper football roots to get the crème of the crop recruits.
Right now for UK our recruiting is on the up swing, but we will never be successful without player development.

Totally agree (and I think Mitch will give him every opportunity o succeed) - i also could see him MAYBE at Iowa - since he played there - but OSU or another REALLY BIG job in midwest is it

Given the shape of our program when he took over I think he's really on track as far as getting the program going. It takes 3-4 years at a Nebraska or a FSU or Miami that has been traditionally good but hit a funk and needed an overhaul. At a school like UK that has never been a power and then sunk to crazy lows below that, with a roster that probably couldn't compete for MAC championships then I think 5-6 years is more realistic. Our roster is improving and with a couple bowl appearances I think our recruiting will really take off. He's learning on the fly with game management and stuff and is improving year to year. He has experience now with Gran who should be able to help him and bring him along a little faster now. That was the one thing he lacked his first years here and I think he realized what a mistake it was to not have at least some experience on staff. Had he hired a proven coach from day one who knows where we would be right now. Bowling probably. But he's not afraid to fix his own blunders. That's a huge plus. If he can get us to the top of the SEC east to compete with Georgia and UT and compete for the SEC east every couple years I don't know what more we can ask. We're still gonna be in some strong bowls if we're in the top 2-3 of the east. As far as what jobs he would leave for if he accomplished that? OSU is the obvious choice. Then Iowa but I think he'd flirt with them but ultimately stay here. Any other big time program it would come down to $$$ in my opinion. If we could match what they would offer, and I think we would if he took us to those levels, then it would just be a matter of maybe him wanting to go there (Bama, USC, any of the powerhouses) to get a title before he hangs it up. I think he's gonna get it done here though given his recent hires and probably stay for a while. Maybe 10-15 years anyway before he goes chasing titles.

If Stoops can manage to win 6 games at UK per year. IMO should ride this gravy train out. I am sorry, but I just don't see him coaching at the next level.

To be honest their was no way to build a SEC program at UK in 5 years. Maybe ten to be competitive with everyone in the league. If all you want is 6 wins and a nothing bowl then that's ok but for me, I want more, a new football culture that expects to win every game. Leave Stoops alone and UK can have that.

Thank you for an excellent comment. Always good to hear a voice of reason.

I think you hit the nail on the head, roster sucked and Stoops was just as green as his staff was. He's improved the experience with new hires and hopefully we begin to see it on the field.
