How many games would they lose?
With Syracuse losing 108 and causing Boeheim to drop to sixth all time in wins it got me to wondering how far UNC will eventually fall? We could really gain ground if KU loses wins as well.

this goes back so far I am not sure they would even be able to get an actual handle on the actual number so I will say it will be similar to what they just took away from Syracuse, and that would take away almost a third of roy's UNC wins

Have a feeling if UNC forfeits games it will not even be close to the actual number of games actually played with Ineligible players.

Agreed. That would be more games than the NCAA originally took away from PSU.

If you go all the way back to 1993 and end at last year (not sure when the cheating supposedly stopped) then you have 578 wins including 3 national titles, 8 Final Four's, and 3 Elite 8's (not including the years they went further than the Elite 8). That's quite a bit of vacating, there.

You need to go back even further. It started in 1988-89. GBB

The NCAA might need to apologize to SMU if they don't seriously nail UNC. Boeheim and Roy looking for work with ESPN for next year....on the Ocho.

They'll never strip a title or a final four. But if Boehiem can be forced to vacate 108 games, they could dock UNC 50-100. Yes of course it should be way more, but that's about what they'll do.

Just as with Syracuse, they will miraculously be found guilty of no wrong doing in any season with a major accomplishment.

Wainstein said something about that. There weren't good email trails going back before 93, that's why they say that's when it started. The shenanigans started under Frank McGuire, Dean Smith was his protégé.

In UNC's case I would think they would have to determine what players would have still been eligible after they back out bogus classes before they can determine how many wins have to be vacated. Based on what they just hit Syracuse with UNC better get ready to bend over.

I think a lot of you are getting your hopes up on UNC***, I just think the NCAA will do very little to them. They should be hit harder than Cuse. JMO

I think the sheer scope of the whole thing is one of the reason's the NCAA has balked. If they went all the way they could damage not only UNC, but the entire sport so I seriously doubt that happens. JMHO of course, but I do think sanctions are likely, and good enough to be meaningful, but not total annihilation. I also think it ultimately cost Roy Williams his job. Every scandal needs a scapegoat.

How many games did UK forfeit in the 80s, and how was that determined?

UNC*** submitted their most recent paper work to SACs. They included a chart showing fake classes going back to 1989.

You can get that info at JPScott's site. As for how it is determined? If a team uses an ineligible player, games are vacated. The full rationale is left up to the NCAA and they can be quite inconsistent.

Thanks. I'm sifting through that site, but haven't found it yet. There's a lot of information there, however, and Mr. Scott obviously put a ton of work into that site.

The only vacated games were the 3 1988 NCAA tournament games. We were also stripped of the SEC titles we won that year but kept the record of 25-5.

Look at UNC's 'titles'

1924- FAKE
1957- real
1982- real
1993-in jeopardy
2005- in jeopardy
2009- probably safe

they could go back to tying UL and being behind Duke

That will never happen. Syracuse got protected by the NCAA today...you think they did nothing wrong in the title season or 2013 final four season? Please.

You got your years reversed. May played in 05.
My bad on May. Pull the transcripts on the 2009 team and prove no one took any bogus classes before declaring anything safe. Cheated will be out soon. Good day to be a tarhole.

At minimum it should be all games played since the 04/05 season thru the 08/09 season, so 200 games and 2 titles, plus pay back all monies received in that time frame.

The 2009 team clustered in Communications, much like the 2005 team clustered in AFAM. I think there were 10 majors from the championship team. Nevermind that Roy said he didn't like the clustering in AFAM so he cut it out. Instead, they just found another discipline. Comm had a ton of irregular classes as well, but it wasn't within Wainstein's scope so it didn't get dissected like AFAM. The cheating at UNC was done on a very broad scale. AFAM, PHIL, COMM, EXSS, NAVW, etc. They honestly deserve to get nuked.
