If we move on from Shula, we should take a look at Kitchings

Current OC at UVA, former running back coach here. He's also from Wagener, SC so maybe he would like to come home.

Partial BIO:

Following the 2022 season he was named the ACC’s winner of R2SportsTech’s Graphite Award as the most efficient offensive play caller in the league. The award is based on analytics that show a play caller’s ability to align their team’s strengths on their opponent’s weaknesses.

Kitchings came to Virginia after serving as the running backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons during the 2021 season. Prior to that he spent one season as the running backs coach at South Carolina before an eight-year stint at NC State where he served a number of roles, including co-offensive coordinator in 2019.

It would be so typical if this is the year we fire Beamer, and have to compete with the following

Va Tech
UCLA
Arkansas
Penn St
UAB
Oklahoma St
Stanford
Oregon ST

Still Watching
UF
FSU
Wisconsin
Auburn
UNC
Michgan St
True.

Here's what I think. Firing Teasley will reveal that the problem goes beyond the OL. It will show that Shula is not a competent OC. I don't think Beamer is in any danger of losing his job.

If he's smart, he'll either tell Beamer to kick rocks or he'll take the job (assuming/hopeful it comes open) and he'll tell Beamer to stay in lane and let him do it his way. He should've gotten the job instead of Loggains. There's no way you're going to convince me that Kitchings wasn't calling plays for the last two games in 2022.

Why would Kitchings take the job at this venture ? We all see the same thing, if Beamer is retained after this year, he is on shaky ground for next season. Kitchings is better off staying put, or if he considers taking another job he would be looking for a more stable situation.

VA on the up and up or a sinking SC? I'd take the up and up. But if he knows how to call a RB screen to slow down another team's blitzes then I'm all for him. I think there are some middle school coaches that can do that.

I would say hire Kitchings with full autonomy over the offensive staff. Pick all his own assistants, including OL coach.

No more hiring buddies from your wedding, coaches nobody's ever heard of or AARP re-treads.

No idea actually. Sure we aren’t that lucky.

Does it matter? When he's on ignore, its just like he's not here at all. :)

The only difference is puppy isn't running around quoting him and telling him how cool he is, trying to drum up attention for the conspiracy theory nonsense.

It's fun to think about a change at OC, but it's a pipe dream. Beamer gave Teasley a raise after last season. I can tell you exactly how this is going to go: the OL play will marginally improve, we'll somehow luck our way to 6 wins and Beamer will install Elliott as permanent OL coach and retain Shula and next year will suck too.

Beamer's track record is to only make staff changes as a last resort. And when he does hire new staff, his stated priority is finding someone who is a culture fit. I get that to some degree, but do think Lane Kiffin was a "culture fit" at Bama? He and Saban were like oil and water, but it produced great results.

It's a shame b/c I think Beamer has some great qualities that a head coach needs. To this point, though, he has not shown the decisiveness necessary regarding staff changes.

He made his point, looked pretty convincing to me. Probably just tired of owning the resident children on here. Too easy.

It's a great idea. We need to get rid of the re-tread, failed-in-the-NFL, have-a-famous-name coaches across the board. Beamer is young. He needs young, up-and-coming coaches on his staff (he has a few already). His ability to make those hires will determine if he's worth a dang as a head coach.
