Good coach. He was my pick to take uk job.
I certainly hope this doesn't spread on Twitter and Bluesky.
Wouldn't want questions about portal coming today of all days.

Underwood has advanced past the 2nd round once in 8 seasons at Illinois. I can’t imagine why Texas would want this guy.
Or.
Three top 2 Big 10 conference finishes in last 5 years.
Made the tournament 9 of 11 seasons at 3 different schools. Two that needed rebuilding.
6 seasons of being to round of 32.
Elite Eight last year.

Not a wealth of coaches with better resumes that Texas could hire away.

I’m sure Texas’ ambition is to get past the round of 32. Underwood is just not an SEC-caliber coach.

I get this board has (at least to me) a surprisingly small amount of respect for Illinois as a basketball program, but the bolded assumption is not at ALL a given. Illinois has a better tradition than Texas (equal at the absolute worst), it has better fan support, Illinois has just as nice of basketball facilities and Illinois has top 10 NIL in the nation. Does Texas have more money than just about everyone? Yeah, but that includes Kentucky and Duke and Kansas...

Illinois will match the salary that Texas is willing to pay a basketball coach, and Underwood very likely will see that as a perfectly good reason to stay put.

I hope Underwood goes to Texas, we don’t need any more high performing coaches in this league.

Sounds like a done deal to Texas. The people need answers.

Anyone posting this on the Illinois board? 😂
I mean our own insiders posted earlier today that Underwood was approached by Texas and informed them he wasn’t interested in moving from Illinois, so it didn’t exactly create hysteria, lol. And frankly, we don’t expect to lose a basketball coach to Texas, and we shouldn’t.

Plays a fun style, seems to be a good recruiter (and that probably takes a step up at Texas), established guy, I think Texas could do a lot worse.

edit -- looks like I'm late to the party, seems as though Sean Miller is the hire

Ask all of the Illinois players how they would feel about their coach taking the Tejas job prior to tip off.
