Don't know if it's the emergence of Pardon, but I'm now getting it. We're trying to marry the Carmody type of recruit with the Collins. We would've have beat Maryland if we didn't go 2-20 from 3 point range... and Maryland didn't make as many prayers at the end of the shot clock. We can take the ball in, we can break a part a zone. McIntosh also looks better with Pardon in the game. The future is bright.

Don't know if it's a matter of "Carmody" recruit or not, but you're not going to win consistently these days if you don't have a guy, and preferably more than one guy, who can bury the three. Coach K's Duke teams have been living by this for years. The flip side of it is that it's a double-edged sword and that you die by it when you go 2-20 as we did Saturday. The Purdue-Iowa game actually was a tale of two halves with Purdue making seven 3s while jolting out to a big lead in the first half and one three in the second when they got caught. Iowa got smart and pur decent pressure on in the second half, which I think is a great tactic if you have decent enough speed to do it. With the 30-second clock, Purdue was down to about 15 seconds at times when they finally broke the press (and several times they didn't break it), giving them a small time window to work the ball to their big guys. I know Painter likes to spell his big guys, but if I were him I'd give serious consideration to sticking both Haas and Hammons in at once for spells during a game. Just throw the ball up and pound the boards.

Totally agree with the above. Reasons for bright future:
1. Two more years with McIntosh at the point.
2. Pardon has long arms, good hands and quick feet- a great combination for a center. He will be able to expand his shooting range with time.
3. Falzon is more than a spot up 3-point shooter- witness the double down baseline steal in the second half.
4. Lindsey, Taphorn and Law will all improve their 3-point shooting.
5. Coach Collins.

Not sure about #4. Law should be a starter but not sure if he will be at the 2 or 3. Lindsey has been disappointing, especially after all the glowing reports from the European trip. Taphorn is basically, what you see is what you get. Hopefully Vassar finds a friendly landing place and another recruit is coming aboard.
