I'm a tOSU fan that has followed Rutgers since before realignment added you guys to the B1G. I've lurked on your message boards to get an idea how your fanbase thinks and also check out nj.com articles. Since coach Ash was hired, I sense a lot of optimism and also a lot of handwringing over his staff hirings. What got me to write this is the fact that almost 100 people commented on an nj.com article about the hiring of an assistant DB coach.
Is this really that important to the Rutgers fan base who Ash hires at that level ? I personally don't have a clue who is in that spot at tOSU and could really care less. I doubt it would even rate a mention in the paper, and they live and breathe tOSU athletics.
Is the fanbase really that interested in the hire or are you guys just arguing with each other in the comments section just because?

Most of them are not rutgers fans lol most are pen state and various other schools fans who post triyng to get us rutgers fans into a frenzy. Or they are fans who like to complain about anything and everything. But MOST rutgers fans know the assistant DB coach really isnt making that much of a difference haha

If you want to stay sane, never read the comments on NJ.Com. As was stated, Syracuse and Penn State fans post there to rile people up and the others that post there, for the most part, are nuts. The writers on that site also do their best to get the fan base arguing.

As evidenced by the 58 post thread here on the hire and the 88 post thread discussing the fact that Coach Ash typed "Welcome to the Fiesta Bowl"...OP has it mostly right. Its arguing for the sake of arguing and a fan base who's shorts are on abit too tight.

You can almost guarantee two numskulls wil begin arguing on this thread, over Ash and Flood. i could post a thread on favorite popsicle color and and it would turn into an argument over coaching or play calling (btw its Purple).

Also a little easier to not be concermed about specific coaching changes on the heals of a National Championship, and now a Fiesta Bowl appearance at OSU. Given the RU situation in Football, I would agree there is a heightened awareness and sensitivity to every move.

But why does purple suck? Because Flood once wore purple boxers while coaching a game that we didn't go 1-0....thats why purple sucks. It is Flood's fault.

Not really. But watching Richt with 6 four star commits. And more to come. Maybe even 4 or 5 more makes me sad.

He is going to crush it down there.

Meanwhile at Rutgers....

Case in point for the OP. This guy posts something that has little or nothing to do with the OP just to get people riled up here or because he is obsessed with his own agenda. The coach Richt was never coming here but this poster is lamenting it anyway in this thread for no sensible reason other than to stir the pot/troll. Such are a majority of NJ.com posters and a growing number of posters here.

We are dying here waiting for something positive to happen with our football program. Can't wait for Saturday when our coach is done with tOSU. Then to signing day; and then SPRING BALL; then summer camp and finally glorious September will arrive with a new brand of Rutgers Football!

That's because you have Meyer running your program. If Meyer was running RU, I wouldn't care if he hired him mother to be the OC. Whatever he does will turn out just fine.

And why the hell do we have chrome helmets? We are not the Chrome Knights, we are the Scarlet Knights and should have classy uniforms that make us look like an actual B1G team!

Enjoy.

Nailed it. So many good RU fans out there who just come to the games and support RU. But when you go into blogs the percentage of momos increases dramatically.

Last time OSU needed a new D back coach they went to Arkansas, bought out a defense coordinator mid contract and paid off Arkansas, brought him back to Ohio State and made him co-coordinator. His name, Chris Ash. We hired a graduate assistant. Lots of optimism but also lots of loyal decades long smart fans who are committed as anybody given our lack of success and just want to see what's best for RU. Some RU fans can't see or won't accept that.

BTW I suspect the OP knew exactly who the safeties coach is! Clever trolling!

OP - some fans wish Greg would have come back. They may have negative slant on hires knowing what Schiano did (brought us from bottom to bowls) with failing Big east conf.

Some fans wanted Golden or Rhule that had local jersey ties for recruits and proved you could win with less talent ala Temple. Those fans see a new unproven staff with no local ties to jersey and are skeptical about staffs recruiting ability for next few years.

Some fans wanted a big name hire such as Rich Rod, Richt, Chip Kelly which all had almost no shot at coming, but possibility was >0 so hopes were up...

Some fans heard we were increasing staff budget for HC and staff instead of going cheap unproven route. So, now we have Ash that seems like a good hire, but unproven as a HC. His staff has not had a big name or someone coming from top 5 conf taking same level position so far. Ashes staff had been comprised of mostly young talented guys that are getting opportunities and promotions. Many fans are hoping for a name that has a proven track record that we are paying for to alleviate concerns from young unproven coach and staff.

Some fans are just miserable people who never have nice things to say.

I am perplexed as to why you would come here to ridicule the Rutgers fanbase for being excited and interested in its football team and coaching staff. I don't care who you root for; your affected perplexity screams "TROLL."

Anyone with a pulse can recruit at Miami and a handful of other places. If that makes you sad, then sad is a choice for you.

the biggest reason why Marc Richt is getting the four stars is due to the fact he has something our new staff lacks - credibility. it is fine to feel sad to see other programs achieve instant results, while our staff has to build its own credibility in subsequent seasons. i can only wonder how long its going to take for us to land at least 6 four stars in a class.

Rutgers and Miami are roughly at the same place, with good qb play being a significant advantage for Miami.
However Miami and Rutgers took diametrically opposite paths when choosing their new coaching staffs.
Miami alums stepped up to the plate, and Miami was able to make THE HIRE of end of season 2015, and got it done, while our alums prefer to run their mouth on a messageboard while spouting trite BS like "Young and Hungry". I hope we remember "Young and Hungry" while getting drilled by OSU.

I figured it would be a bad idea to ask on the Rivals site, but I thought posters here would have some insight into NJ.com replies. I really wasn't trying to troll; I'll save that for reddit.

Reading the comments section of a nj.com article and seeing it as an accurate reflection of the Rutgers fanbase is like going to Taco Bell and saying you're now familiar with authentic Mexican cuisine. While there are some interesting thoughts, it's largely something out of a Tokken novel- trolls, bigger trolls and Trolls of Trolls.
