So, Nebraska is a "nobody." Your words not mine. As in "nobody" cares about Nebraska football outside the state of Nebraska? As in no longer relevant when it comes to winning championships on any level? Do think Nebraska will ever escape its "nobody" status so that beating Nebraska actually means something?
This "nobody" topic is quite interesting.
Trust me, Iowa is an afterthought in the college football world. In fact, when it became apparent that Iowa had a chance to be undefeated due to their extremely easy schedule, most pundits questioned whether Iowa should be included in any playoff discussion. It reminded me of when Hawaii made a BCS bowl and everyone knew how it would turn out. This is because Iowa is a nobody. BTW - the pundits were right.
Speaking of championships, what championships did Iowa win in their one of their best seasons in school history?
While Nebraska hasn't been elite in 15 years, they are still a measly 5-2 against Kirk. Nebraskas history, tradition, accomplishments and relevance all dwarf Iowa despite Iowa's dream season (2 losses).
I think that anyone that watched one of the historically best Iowa teams play one of the historically worst Nebraska teams expected to see a better showing from Iowa. Most teams would turn 4 unforced turnovers into a blowout win but since Iowa is so awesome they decided to squeak by. Nebraska fans know what an elite team look like and Iowa isn't even close.
Oh well, maybe next time the 2 big dogs in the West are in a coaching transition and you get to play 2 cellar dwellars in cross over games, you can ride the easy schedule into another 2 loss season. Until then, enjoy the perennial 7-5.
