So silly. Why wait and see how 2020 turns out? He either committed impeachable offenses or he didn't. They are not predicated on the election.

Timing. If you're going to impeach, you sure as hell better have the votes. Otherwise Biff is empowered by it. Maybe Mueller cleared up enough questions to get some R-pols onboard.

Trump will never be tried in a court of law for his actions as President. And I will agree that is best for the country.

Now investigations before he was President, as of now that is fair game. I still think the next President will pardon Trump for everything.

As soon as he's out of office, if the state of New York, or some other court wants to go at him, then go at it.

Why? I can’t see Biden pardoning him. Besides, the state of NY will prosecute him as soon as he leaves office.
In my view, it is best for the country. We don't want to become a country in which the transfer of power is not completely peaceful and that includes not investigating or criminalizing the former president once they leave office. Now, if Trump does something after he leaves office, absolutely no protection.

But again, this is pure opinion and I don't pretend to be an expert on the subject.

But I think you’re looking at it wrong. I understand your sentiment about peaceful transfer of power and not prosecuting political adversaries for corrupt purposes. But in this situation, we have a system in place that says we will not prosecute sitting presidents. The only two options are impeachment, which isn’t going to happen, and prosecution after leaving office. No one should get a free pass for being POTUS. I think prosecuting criminals is best for the country.
