Is the ESCC competitive or just a down year? I'm thinking JCA cruises here.
IMO, the ESCC is similar to the DVC. Marian Catholic is the only gimme game in the conference this year. When that's the case, upsets tend to occur. It's difficult to get kids up for every game. And the teams in the ESCC are good enough to make teams pay that are not 100% ready to play. You see that even moreso in the DVC (ie Metea Valley beating Waubonsie last night). Marist just came off a big victory against ND. I'm sure they expected to win (as Benet struggled to beat Pat's by 2 in the previous week and had just lost to ND in Week 3). Also, if guys are nicked up or injured, you can't necessarily hold them out to heal up, which makes upsets more likely as well.
The above phenomenon does not exist in any of the CCL divisions, as the crossover games tend to involve obvious mismatches for the better CCL teams. So, I'm not saying the ESCC is comprised of great teams. It contains a number of good teams, which makes for very competitive games week-to-week and potential upsets.
The Benet / Naz game in Week 6 just got more interesting. Personally, I think Naz has too much speed for Benet, but I thought the same thing in regards to the Benet / Marist matchup. We shall see.
