I think cal ran the same inbounds play for 15 years. Love the ball the big sealing at the 3pt line and then out to the guard.
Zero attempts in 15 years to get a good shot off the inbound pass.🤦🏻

It was great and refreshing to actually be the team that had a wide-open layup on an inbounds play instead of being the team the give them up. Who knew those things were even possible when not having a big at the corner holding his hand up just to get a lob pass to put the ball in play.
Are those allowed?

Amen, I never understood why Cal refused to run out of bounds plays verse just throwing the ball in. Cal seemed to me to be a lazy coach, years ago when he was asked about practicing Free Throws he said we don't work on FT's that is on the players?? Seemed Cal never worked on any of the simple things that could help win a game.

By the end Cal was monumentally lazy. He always was a bit lazy, but it got wild those last seasons. A whole lot of “go make a play” and almost zero actual game planning.

The free throw thing is especially hilarious given his offense was designed to draw fouls and earn free throw attempts (good) but then he didn’t ever emphasize free throw shooting (what?) despite that.

How about the zone press out of a time out? Forced a 10 sec call.

Want to see a couple zones going forward as we will need them at some point although with the best defensive pg in the country it kinda nullifies his on ball pressure. OO, Williams and Garrison are also terrific defenders.

Just out-athlete the other team seemed to be his only strategy the last few years.

Watching last night we run the same set but it has so many choices from that set that we probably will not ever have to use a different play from the baseline. I am sure Pope and his coaches have others, I am sure from the sidelines will be different plays as well. You got to love the attention to detail the coaches have on the scheme. Like Pope said it is exciting for the players as they have no idea where the ball will end up going or what shot we will see. Man that keeps 5 guys engaged on offense. Defense and rebounding is where we need about 15% more focus for the guys. Last night with Williams out (heck he had like 3 rebounds in 2 minutes), but with him out and having to adjust early to that was probably part of the problem. I know that as good a rebounder that Oweh is and as strong as he is I would have him crashing the defensive boards. Offense will have to be either him or Butler to help out and you will have to have Robinson or the other guard cover for defense.

“Go make a play” = I’m overmatched and unprepared, but I’m going to dump it in the laps of the dudes I’m supposed to be leading.
