winning time was a really slow 2:30, Pharaoh was 2:26, about 20 lengths faster. This was a weak crop of 3 year olds.

Sham is only one of 3 horses to run the Derby in under 2 minutes (although he doesn't get credit for it since they only officially time the winner) so I disagree.
I could watch this over and over. It never gets old.

Yet another bad take, Glenn(n)

Secretariet ran the mile and a half in 2:24 flat, smoking AP's time by ten lengths, and I am a huge AP fan.

There is a great youtube video that splits the screen and shows synced video of Secreteriet and AP sude by side, worth checking out.

Secretariat can't be better. Everybody knows athletes get better with time. Today's bench warmers for Triple Crown would smoke Secretariat.

Clocks used to run slower.

Would not argue that Secretariat is the GOAT, but AP has to be in the top 10, at least based solely on the 2 and 3 year old campaign. One unique thing he did is that no horse will ever win the Grand Slam again in my lifetime, the TC and then the BC Classic? Odds against it are astronomical.

I kind of disagree more because the older handicap division is so bad anymore that anyone good enough to win the TC should be able to beat the older horses. None of the really good horses run at 4 anymore.

Well, even if I agree with you (and remember, Beholder got scratched in the Keeneland BC Classic, and Chrome was also supposed to run, and Arrogate is still running this year at 4) . . . you still have to win the TC first, which has only been done once in 40 years. It is just really really unlikely any time soon.

Again, HUGE AP fan, accomplished what many so called experts said could never be done, win the TC, and did it with style. Then top it with BC Classic, enough said.

Just using his greatness to further support the genius of Secretariat...

As a follow up, 2017 was the first year since 1926 that 9 different horses finished in the top three in the TC races. What a crappy group of horses.
