I get it. I get it.
1994 - The Big Ten's own voters won't even back us.
2005 - His heel was out of bounds. Who cares where his toe is. Big Ten refs care, that's who. And time's run out? Meh - give them 2 more seconds. If that pass was incomplete, dollars to donuts they find a way to give those wangs another shot.
2006 - Maybe we don't win the conference, but you can't convince me that Troy Smith's Heisman play was free of holding by their O-line. And their defensive back stepped out of bounds on their pick-6 AND dropped the ball before getting into the endzone. Neither was called. Penn State should have been down 8 with the ball and plenty of time to score.
2008 - Don't get me started about Iowa. I know the B1G doesn't call holding. Eff this conference.
2011 - Should I really need to say anything?
2012 - Ohio State holding, Nebraska with their magic goal line. And then we STILL win our division. The conference won't let us play in the championship game, though, and the team we beat on the field went on to win. SMH.
2013 - I know we weren't winning, anyway, but I still say Ohio State was gifted several touchdowns. Should have been targeting on a crack-back block. Then they gave Ohio State a touchdown when he was out of bounds back at the 5. (Replay then put it at the 1.) Then Meijer challenged a spot when we picked up a 4th down and the refs gave the ball to him.
2014 - We had Ohio State beat, even with the BS calls in the first half (which were atrocious, of course). But the refs gave it to them in overtime. Yeah, I know - we weren't winning the conference that year, anyway.
2016 - We all know how much love we got from the Big Ten after winning it. Thanks, B1G. You're the best.
I could go on and on. But I won't be optimistic until we're actually in the playoffs, and away from the ref screw jobs. Either expand the playoffs to where we can actually get in, or get out of this conference. Make them beg for us to come back. And that's when our list of demands comes into play.
I like Chitown's enthusiasm, but I'm pessimistic. This conference won't let it happen.Think about 1982 without that catch against Nebraska.
Think about 1986 if Testaverde's pass went for a TD instead of a pick by Pete Giftopolous.
Think about 1994 if a single thing went wrong in that final drive at Illinois.
Think about 2002 without all of those horribly blown calls by the old-guard referines vs Iowa, Michigan, etc.
Think about 2005 at Michigan which might've been the greatest disgrace of all time.
There are hundreds of examples, but all championship-caliber teams have one thing in common -- they remain competitive in all games which allows them a chance to capitalize on those small windows of opportunity to win the game. James Franklin has us right there. We just need another 1% push to get over the hump. That's literally it.
