Here is what 60K of wasted college money gets you

Your figure is way too low for many. My daughters all attended out of state schools and I can assure you, the cost figure is much, much higher. I think $40K per year is much closer to reality in my situation. In state students at public schools are less expensive but with living expenses, I think your figure is still too low. Private colleges, forget about it. My eldest spent one year at SMU and the figure was staggering.

I had a liberal education and I'm doing pretty well.

An Optometrist is not a liberal education. I can't believe you can't "see" the difference bewteen an art degree and a doctorate of optometry. When I think of liberal arts I think of a degree that doesn't get you a job that pays well.

Define "liberal education" ... My education has served me well.

What was your major? Are you working in your major? As I just stated, when I think of liberal arts degree I think that those people in up working in something that their degree isn't really a requisite.

There is nothing wrong with a degree in art

OK "liberal ARTS" not "liberal"
I have two engineering degrees and an MBA ... But use those analytical skills to game the system and then make wise investments with your money ... so thank you.

With engineering degrees, you could work in your major. You chose not to, something that proves you are smarter than I am. I have to physically work to make money.[winking]

I'm not sure my biology undergrad degree would pay a lot. But I certainly received a liberal education. Look up liberal and get back to me. Here, I'll help....

Can all the people who get a degree in art work in the art industry?
Many can. As dealers, appraisers, they can work in museums and galleries, they can teach it, they can use that degree to apply to aspects of community outreach and organization.

Can they make enough to pay off a large debt from college? I guess I've missed where there is are multiple art galleries all across the US.[laughing]

In other words, no firm beliefs at all.

Actually there are multiple art galleries across the US, but besides that why limit what someone sees as important? If they can't pay their bills or debt, than they will have to find another avenue won't they? But they will be better artists and probably more in touch with their senses, passion and intellect than you might me.

I'm jut against loaning money to people who will have a really hard time paying it back.

I agree. I worked military financial aid for Kaplan University for a year....it was absolutely horrible. FA officers were paid by the amount of loans they secured for students before I joined. FA officers actually encouraging students to take more money

Just because a person has a degree doesn't mean he or she has common sense. Just look at the questions that Trump's appointees are receiving from these brain dead Dems. Questions that don't even relate to their appointed position. It doesn't take a degree to see that it's nothing but obstructionism.

Proficiency vs. growth doesn't apply to education? Do tell.

I know ... I've been here for awhile, I know who does what and who is capable of what ... I just like to point out the lunacy without really expecting answers
I'm new and learning obviously. It's just really frustrating that the left is getting pegged in here as anti-liberty, anti-equality by posters on here. I'm finding it tough to deal with.

I don't think you can apply "commie loving" to the liberals these days.
Seems the conservatives are in love with all things Russia.

That's a stretch. We weren't the ones who seemed to be drawing red lines in the sand only to keep moving backwards. Trump seems to think that he can win over Putin with a promise to lift sanctions. That's not going to work and, at least, he has real military leaders advising him who know the enemy. Hopefully, he listens to them, unlike Obama who ignored them at every turn.

I think what I've learned about you so far....is that you don't really stand for anything. You just look for opportunities to be right by faking an opinion. I bet that's pretty close?

I've been here quite a long time, most know where I stand. I don't regurgitate my entire ideology all of the time, only where important.

But yeah, I've learned to be a master at hit and runs lately, it's a defense to Bru, Bud, Knox.

You haven't been here long. He's actually very informed and very principled. You just haven't seen that with his posts recently.

Our points of view differ on many things, but he is one of the ones that add a lot of value to the board.

I'm not attacking you ... I just don't want you to get the wrong impression of one of the better posters so quickly and have it cloud what he offers later on.

You'll get used to it. :)
From what I've seen, I think you and I are pretty similar. It will drive you nuts, but you'll have to learn to ignore some people.
