Wednesday....
Coaches using terms like immature, soft, weak, dumb. SAME kind of crap play. Players not learning, forgetting......yada yada yada.

Guys.....you coaches are the bosses. Believe me, you don't have the chops Spurrier did to come across as a motivational belittling. This sounds like whining.
This is stuff you say to the team the second week of practice....not the third game of the season. You've bragged on these guys and how they've developed for months and just now these statements????????
Did Eliott ever go to a practice? Ever??????? Or was everyone so bad they just looked improved against each other????

Stoops and Eliott are attached at the hip....but now the head guy is saying this will be the same crap....after four damned years of it????

Please, please, please Mitch Barnhardt....if this team gets boat raced by the worst South Carolina team in fifteen years swallow that twelve million and hire SOMEbody else.

This whole thing is straining to sound Gillispie like....without the fun of being a drunk.

To be honest, being drunk and being a UK fan might be better than seeing this defense sober.

Glad to see Coach Stoops get after them. All coaches do it. Cal calls them out in public for the same things and he's the best. Time to step up
Cal is talking to first year freshman. Stoops is talking to third and forth year players who has had a free ride so far in college. I bet a new coach would get rid of half of UK team to make room for smart players.

Ill ask it here because the other dudes didnt want to take a crack at it.

We were debating in the "crazy" thread about how much motivation plays a role in coaching. A few (literally 2) thought its not really the coaches job to do that and its not one of the more important parts in leadership.

so.....

Anyone want to answer this question....

What are the qualities we always hear about coach Cal? Aside from recruiting, what do people always attribute to him as to why he's so successful in coaching?

Players also bear responsibility for the terrible defense. You would think after being bashed both pubicly and privately by fans and coaches, they would man up and show some pride.

If given the opportunity, Cal would hire the right Assistants, and win 6 games in FB.

I've always said cal could do better with the program than what we have witnessed the last seven years. With good assistants and getting players and coaches to believe in the system, we would be better than we are now. Stoops has shown numerous stretches where his team just lays down and quit. We are missing out on more than just X's and O's.

Ummm....not sure if serious. Have you looked at the defense? I posted the guys off the top of my head in the two deep that are not what you claim.

Desperate people always place blame on others
Not all blame falls directly at one's own feet.

If I am the captain and you are the obvious weak link, you are going to hear about it from me and I'm going to make an example of you. Welcome to the US military.

I have no problem with coaches calling out players. Most atheletes respond to that by getting better and that is why coaches do this. I'm not defending the coaches, they have equal responsibility for the way they are playing, but they can't set back and say all is well when it's not. Until the players decide to make a difference on the field nothing will change.

I don't have a dog in this fight but from a coaching standpoint, no coach practices are teaches bad play. You practice technique/scheme and you use drills and scrimmages to learn the game. Hopefully you improve from practice to practice and game to game. If players do not buy into what you are stressing, study their play books and are not willing to learn what is being taught, then you will get poor execution, look inept and lose.

Why are we in a coachs 4th year and playing freshmen and soph's is the question then?

………and, as in this case, they are sometimes right. Too long have fans given players a pass on poor performance.

We have some great players and, at this level, many more poor ones. Same coaches so why the difference?

Simple. When Stoops got here he went the JUCO route to get some descent players after the awfuk roster left by Joker. Those guys are gone now.

Then, you have attrition that ALL teams have due to whatever reason. Hatcher, Meant, Tubman to name a few.

There is also the fact that they missed on a few kids who didn't develop the way they thought they should. Again, EVERY program has this issue.

I doubt very much that our players are somehow dumber or lazier than say Louisville's players or players at Southern Miss or WKU.

Tired of the players getting ripped for being poorly coached.

You were very proactive, that would be my debate. Every program has attrition and injuries, and kids not be what they were hyped up to be. You have to recruit with that in mind and develop. It just doesn't seem to be getting done

IMO, Stoops doesn't command respect from his players. He doesn't look like a coach that demands discipline. As many blunders as he's made during games, the players may find it hard to respect him.

I still hold out hope he can salvage the season and tonight's game is one of the biggest in his career as a HC. Perfect game to see if we have improved at all under Stoops.

The problem wit that is you only have so many scholarships. The roster was so bad that they needed help everywhere. People forget that Stoops has only had 2 real recruiting classes. The first one he had a month to get a class together. His 4th one isn't finished or on campus yet. So he has recruited the lines as much as any position, but it generally takes longer to develop those guys as well.

So again, the roster was so bad, he ddint have enough scholarships to give out for all the positions of need.

Why are some of them so obviously better than most even with the same coaching? Different quality athletes. SEC quality vs low SunBelt.
