Injuries are killing us

None of the guys are real alpha players. So the pressure is starting to mount. Plus if any the reports are true about players already looking to transfer... It not surprising the team is regressing. Just need some better fundamental players, and a few better athletes and I think Pope will be OK. I figured this would be a throw away year and got caught up in the moment when we looked unstoppable earlier this year... 3rd year to me will be the makenor break year... Should look to see improvement next year... And see his true system and style.

We have had injuries tons of seasons before this year. It happens unfortunately.
This year has been different though. Our top 3 point guards being injured. If injuries are at different positions it is more manageable. Butler isn't nearly the player he was earlier

I mean 1997 with DA cost us a title, and IMO, 2014 wcs did and 2015 poy did (Cals still the coach so maybe he still blows one but at least one of those years).

Even if healthy this year I never thought the team had the high end talent to go super deep in March. It is tough to compete without your PGs though.

Injuries aren't the reason we continually sub in starters and give up leads or fall behind further 4 minutes in to the game.

The reports are true. I think earlier in the season the guys now looking to transfer didn't have to think about all that stuff, and likely thought they'd get their playing time and be able to secure a starting spot, and when that didn't happen they tucked their tails between their legs, took plays off and started conserving in areas in preparation for playing somewhere else.

You can tell some of our guys that are playing are still a little hurt. I had high hopes for this game but it looks like we just don’t have enough firepower on the floor to overcome it.
Most teams have injuries this time of year. Has nothing to do with it

Injuries do cause turnovers when you can’t move your left shoulder that affects your handle

Butler should not even be playing.
Or maybe he should be on the other side of the court before he receives a pass. He sure thought it was funny with the turnover.

I think what’s killing us is the lack of real talent. And I’m afraid this team has overachieved this year.

But lack of talent magnifies all the more the injuries that have occurred…

If Carr had only missed a game, JRob only a game here or there, Kriisa only a game here or there, and Butler only a game here or there, then the talent of the team is different.

Instead, the top guys being out means this team is relying on guys to provide quality minutes who were not intended to be counted on that much this year.

Do anyone really think that this team would have this many losses had all the players been healthy except maybe 1 player missing a couple of games?

It probably would not have mattered against Auburn because they are legit, but I think this game would’ve been much, MUCH more competitive had this team been healthy and playing together all season.

Injuries don’t cause turnovers. Stop
So losing 2 starting PG this year and having to start a player that is not totally ready to start in the SEC is not injuries causing turnovers. Man some comments on here are just pathetic and not thought out.

This year ran off the rails with injuries. You have 4 guys (that were 4 of the top 6 on the team) that have missed many games.
I think you need to STOP.

Since 2020 UK has only played 17% of their games will full roster. Teams like Bama, Auburn, Kansas, Duke, Uconn and many more are well over 70% of their games played since 2020 with full roster available. UK has been snake bit for years. It might take a season or two to shake off the bad juju.

I wouldn't call Cal years snakebit. He hid players and had two flat out quit.

It's not the injuries, friend. The remaining players aren't protecting the ball or hitting shots. This has been slowly sliding downhill the last couple games. This team is regressing. It's lack of fundamentals and focus.
williams is relied on too much, so is oweh. butler is maybe 60%, so is carr. the inbounds errors are inexcusable, but to expect crisp basketball from a bunch of banged up players, and freshman is asking to much against this competition.

it is the injuries. the other guys committing these errors would not be getting the same minutes if we were healthy. guys like chandler and perry would be playing 1-2 minutes a game, if at all. noah/garrison/perry/chandler combined for 43 minutes today. they went combined 1-6 from the floor with 4 turnovers leading to 9 points.

Butler would have had a monster year if he'd been healthy.
He's a one dimensional PG. He's shot it decent from three, but most teams still guarding him knowing that's not going to keep going on. He is constantly driving the ball into bigger players because he isn't comfortable in consistently hitting three pointers.
