so.. we know cam was hurt. Assuming jack was too, or not ready and Goldwire barely saw the floor. Is he hurt too? Running outta bodies.

He was for about a min. Then never came back in and came outta the locker room late after half.

Think they would’ve gone to Goldwire more if he was 100% as AOC looked fought tonight in both ends. A healthy Goldwire could’ve helped when VT was playing two point guards.

You play the situations. Some nights differ from others. K is not sitting over there with a blackboard to see who plays and who doesn’t. He’s trying to win games. I’ll never get people who fail to understand such a simple concept.

We aren’t going to play 10 people, that’s not K’s MO, never has been. He creates a rotation based on the matchups that he thinks will give us the best chance to win. This year the number of guys per game isn’t increasing but he’s using more people in different situations. This board always thinks that no matter who it is the player on the bench is better than the player on the court, always. Sometimes it’s the same player we are begging to sit that we begged to play the previous game.

If that’s the case then great. I was just worried there were injuries to goldwire and jack still. 6 players saw the floor last night. We won so it worked. But if we go into MSU with only 6 healthy players and someone has foul trouble then it’s an issue.

I would have liked to see Goldwire in over AOC late for defense. I can’t imagine any scenario where it was best to have AOC in the game that last two Va Tech possessions unless you’re thinking about free throws. Boy and AOC caught himself from fouling on that three smh

As true as all of this is.. K playing AOC 35 minutes, when he’s not hitting 3s, is a little odd..

Kept thinking the same thing last night. Although I wonder if he left him out there for spacing? VT was forced to defend him out on the perimeter unlike Goldwire which would’ve allowed them to collapse the paint more

That makes sense.. but there were times where K could have did defensive/offensive subs with Goldwire & AOC (especially at the end of the game), and he chose not to.. that’s what makes me think Goldwire wasn’t 100%.

If he was getting abused on defense I would agree. But we were diced up on the pick and roll second half, nothing to do with him. K gave him a lot of praise after the game. I won’t go that far and say he played great, but he was serviceable, which is all we needed. Tre picked up the slack for Cam, and of course RJ and Zion did their thing. If K puts you in the rotation for a particular game you are going to get a lot of minutes. Again goes to my point, different players are finding themselves in the rotation in games but never more than 6-7 in any particular game.

I had the same thoughts about AOC vs Goldwire when we needed stops. However the time for AOC actually has me concerned that K knows Cam is not playing this weekend and knows they need AOC for 30mins out there as result, let him see the time to be ready for MSU. If Cam is out and Jack is out then you absolutely have to give AOC the minutes hot or cold.

Alex led us in defensive rebounds with 7 and was not being exploited in any real matchups.

That said, I was shocked Jordan wasn't out there in the final 30 seconds.

I also couldn’t believe Goldwire wasn’t out on the D possessions at the end of the game!

Coach K was coaching against UCF. He did see what happens when a team clogs the paint and allows a player to be wide open on purpose. He knows Virginia Tech is better than UCF, and more familiar with Duke, due to playing them once. IMO, he left AOC in over playing Goldwire, for this fact alone. Tech would have played off of Goldwire the entire defensive end... GREAT MOVE by K, to space the floor and make them guard everyone. Plus we were without Cam, a respectable shooter, someone needed to be on the floor who could shoot with confidence.
