Iran is safer than Iowa:

Tim Foley, then a columnist for Intermat, actually wrote that line in his weekly mailbag.

He was trying to convey how he felt there while covering the sport, and how foreign wrestlers are treated while there for events. Fair enough within that very limited scope ... but then he had to make that comparison.

Also of note: wrestling journalist Foley had never visited Iowa, including during his 4 years in Chicago.

Jonathan Winters is regarded as one greatest comic minds of all time. Robin Williams said that Winters was his mentor. Watch an old Carson rerun for how quick Winters could improv.
That wasn’t Jonathan Winters. It was the amazing character actor, M Emmet Walsh. His best role was in Simple Plan

Also… Peterson will wrestle for a one score match, Ayala will wrestle for a one score match, Nasir will, Ryder SVN could get weird, Williams will try to wrestle a one score match don’t think it’ll work though, Caliendo will let it fly and and is Iowa’s best wrestler, Kennedy will wrestle for a one score, Ferrari will take it to overtime, Endene will try, probably not succeed and Kueter is the favorite. Going up be a grind the whole time. Great test

Sort of adds more weight to how dangerous Iowa is..
The bar scene at 2 am in Iowa is something to avoid, my friend barely escaped one of their heavies, there was alot of pushing and she called him for stalling many times.

Didn't realize that. I thought it was Jonathan Winters. He had same comic delivery . Thanks for correction.
I remember Winters and Martin were on Letterman ? one night , and Winters went totally improv and Letterman and Martin were in awe of his ability.
I never saw Winters live but I have seen numerous top comics over the years including Rickles and recently Maniscalco. No one did improv and character comedy better than Robin Williams. I saw him in his prime at Lehigh Stabler Arena probably around 1985. His last 45 minutes was total off the cuff comedy. He became a Gerbil/Hammster with the storyline involving the Philadelphia Newscaster Jerry Pennicola.

Like a turd in a lacrosse helmet (or similar crappy jokes):

Iowa's Mike Evans got suspended from Cumberland Valley HS during his JR year for relieving himself in a schoolmate's equipment.

Since his school suspension was during the PIAA postseason (but after regionals), he was ineligible for states. He would've been the state champ that year in a walk -- he was undefeated and hammered the eventual state champ (who won by TF in the finals) at regionals.

That summer he transferred to Blair.

Some more (note: some may have been carried over from HR board).

“Meet under the bridge” …. When two guys argue on the boards forever… one guy wanted the other to meet under the bridge for a fight.

“Closing the gap”….. hawk fans use it to describe when a Hawk wrestler loses to Penn State by a closer margin than the last time. Particularly with Messenbrink and Caliendo. Note: the opponent never ends up beating the PSU GUY. 😊

“Illegal fist to the back”….. Nebraska student announcers.

“hips to the party”….. gibbons describing Cezno.

I I repeated any…. Sorry.
