Now that was an eye opening article worth the subscription. Difficult to understand where NU fits in this new world - I think these were higher rated programs speaking off the record - but the environment is the same. No surprise NU lost Brumbaugh based on this article.

Very enlightening as far as the transfer universe goes. Basically it’s the wild, Wild West and schools are contacting kids and kids are contacting coaches without restriction.

High school recruiting has been greatly diminished and if you are a mid-major you can be sure your best player has already inquired about moving up, or has been contacted about such a move. Likely both.

Our experience was that the portal is decimating and greatly delaying D1/D2 recruiting of high school players. My son experienced this with a couple of D1s that liked him a lot but decided to play the portal first, then maybe get back to him in the spring. High D2s are also looking to fill needs primarily through the portal.

My son just signed with Grand Valley State (which was his top choice), but there are a lot of terrific players in Michigan still unsigned and who don’t have options. It’s crazy to me that the best PG in the state’s senior class, who was a starter on his EYBL team and has the size and skills to be a high-major player, doesn’t have any good offers.

It looks like the NCAA added a couple of live periods in April, but that’s still really late.

After reading that article, the implication is that losing Brumbaugh to Texas was par for the course in the new environment and that signing an impact transfer shouldn't be difficult for NU. Looks like Texas is a transfer juggernaut. They had a very highly recruited freshman decide to transfer mid-season. Brumbaugh is going into the tiger's den with that coach.
