Oh, fascinating! I was at Duke during the mid 90s, and it is certainly interesting to see how the basketball program has changed, as has the perception of the team and school.

Amaker, Dawkins, Davis, Elton, Ewing, Duhon, Doc, Sheldon, Kyrie, Jabari are notable dark-skinned black players to wear a Duke jersey prior to the “2015 turning point” (of course there are many others.) I can agree that we do tend to have more white players than most teams but to say that Coach K had a type referencing light-skinned black players really ticks me off. He has a type... and that’s recruiting players with great character, it had nothing to do with skin color. That was a snide remark.

And... we have always been the most hated college basketball team, that narrative is only different this year because of Zion. The media and celebrity attention has attracted more “Duke fans” — We get great OAD’s nearly every year but I doubt we will see another big hit of Zion’s caliber. The bandwagon will fall back apart and once again there will be another Laettner, Hurley, Collins, Wojo, JJ, Scheyer, Grayson player that becomes the butt of all jokes and that energy will compass back to being Duke’s most hated team.

This is probably weird, but I’d rather us be hated rather than popular. I’ve ran into more people in Duke apparel this year than I have my entire life combined. Bandwagoning is just one of my biggest pet peeves.

I agree that's it's mostly due to Zion. Everyone still hates us. Me admitting I'm a Duke fan never, ever ends positively.
