Why in the world would McClung come to NU when, per a source like "The Athletic", he is the number one transfer in the market? Not sure he is number one but still. What would be the attraction? Just asking.

Well, according to some on this board, NU doesn’t need the #1 transfer candidate in the market. Our roster has no room for such a player.

Most people quote the stats of transfer players has the previous year. You seem to have an issue with his shooting percentages because he doesn’t have a stroke like Kopp. McClung isn’t Klay Thompson, but he would have been NU’s top scorer, 3rd in 3 PT% and 3rd in FT %.

You comped him to Gaines which makes no sense if you have seen him play. The best comp is Buie and I will take another Buie with hops all day. Buie is more of a ball handler now but not as athletic. Both are not afraid out there to take a shot and both need to shoot better.

I comped his shooting percentage to Gaines because they are the same.

He's a 2, but doesn't have the size to defend big 2's.

He's not a PG but wants to play PG.

If he would be NU's top scorer while learning to play PG it would be a very bad year for NU basketball.

Our roster has no room for guards because our roster has no room for guards.

Wasn't the case two years ago when NU took Taylor...who was top 5 or top 10 grad transfer.

He was fine, but it didn't exactly put NU in the tournament.

In the hypothetical scenario where this kid would want to be at NU, you cut loose some of the dead weight to make room.

Sorry, I just couldn’t let an awful take pass by as it was repeated and repeated. Once or twice, I’m cool.

You never answered my question if you ever saw him okay or are just googling stats?

If you meant to write "did I ever see him play" the answer is yes.

And don't misunderstand my argument. I'm not suggesting that he's not a decent player.

My argument is that:
* He uses up a roster spot for two years, but it's unclear if that finishes in '22 or '23 which affects recruits' perception of the NU opportunity;
* He's a 2 in the body of a one. His jumping ability doesn't mean he'll be effective against 6 5 Big Ten SGs/wings who post him up or shoot over him;
* The NBA told him he needs to show PG skills which is what he's looking to do. Like a wrote about Vasser(sp?), he's not a point guard, will never be a point guard, the mentality just isn't there. You can go the other way, you can be a PG who grows and so becomes a wing. But PG is about hardwiring that happens early, he doesn't have the mentality and may not have the handle (which doesn't matter if he doesn't have the mentality). On top of that, NU has better options of guys with PG skills.

He's great, I love him. God bless him. Go on and conquer.

But what he offers isn't a fit for NU.

There are three spots left for class of '21 and this is an easy pass.

He needs a run and gun school...where D isn't really a thing and four guys on the court have guard skills. That's not just not NU, it's not the Big Ten.

Oh, and on shooting stats...while he hit 32% from three last year, that dropped to 22% in the Big East. That tell you anything?

I agree with everything you say here. One correction, presently we only have 2 scholarships left for 2021.

Greer has more assists by accident in 5 mins a game than this guy has in 30.
That may be the case, but Greer doesn’t belong on a Big Ten roster and could not hold this kid’s jock strap. He might be a nice guy, but don’t think for a second that Collins wouldn’t give him the ole’ Johnnie Vassar in a heartbeat if he had someone like McClung who could take the scholarship.

Give the ole" Johnnie Vassar to get the new Johnnie Vassar. Very cool.

Pretty solid Top 7! Huh, wonder why all those top 25 teams are interested in him but he wouldn’t be worth a spot on KenPom’s #132 team?

Thanks for the correction. I guess you live up to your handle.

My point is NU had 2 guys willing to shoot the ball in crunch time last year. One needed to be set up for an open shot and the other was a Freshman. The offense was anemic. You might recall blowing a lead or two. This guy gets to the rim. We had 2 of them last year and one is gone. Having a guy that is unafraid would be a good thing for this team. I tell you he would have been third on NU in 3 Pt% and you pull out Big East shooting percentage. I get it, the guy isn’t Steph Curry, but you never acknowledge that he was basically the only guy you had to guard on Georgetown at the end of the year. I could just as easily retort by quoting points scored against P6 teams.

Saying the guy wouldn’t “help” is plain silly. I am done with this as he never was coming here anyway.

Because we aim higher. Because we’re in the same elite recruiting echelon of the Duke/UK/KU/NC. Obviously.

In the case of PBJ and Max Christie, this statement is literally true. And we have only 2 scholarships open for 2021.

Just when you might have thought it couldn't get worse for Georgetown, Pat Ewing announced today he tested positive for COVID-19. Hope he gets through it ok.

TT fans are on cloud nine saying they’re heading back to the final four with him, but yeah apparently he would have been a nice role player here.
