Posted this in HOB and thought you guys might want to see the struggle Kanter is going through. Hopefully you guys on Twitter can lend your support to him and encourage him.

The international warrant issued for Enes Kanter’s arrest has, thus far, not hindered his ability to play basketball.

Despite his passport being revoked by the Turkish government, Kanter made arrangements to play in Canada against the Raptors, and was cleared to travel to Mexico City for a game last season before he was traded from the Thunder.

Kanter doesn’t own a valid passport and is being charged as a terrorist in his home country of Turkey. On the other hand, Kanter’s biggest crime is speaking freely – specifically against Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has tightened his authoritarian grip on the country by arresting those who don’t fall in line.

This is horrible that Kanter is being seeked out like he is overseas from his home country for just saying he's against an authoritarian government.

When you don't have a first amendment right you have those who want to shout you down and silence you. If you speak up they throw false charges at you And in Kanters case it's terrorism which we know clearly he's not.

This is why I love the good ole USA and why most of the rest of the world wants to come here.

I bet his immediate family wishes they were positioned in Iowa or even Nebraska when Enes spoke out.

Enes Kanter whether people here want to admit it or not often let's his mouth overlaod his ***...hes an idiot. Just because he practiced here for a year doesnt mean we have to worship everything he says or does. Hes clearly an agitator ...its just who he is...not saying he is wrong about the things he says about his country...but to put his family at risk by saying them knowing they still live there and have to deal with the repercussions tells me all I need to know about him

Erdogan is a punk dictator. Turkey needs to be kicked out of NATO. I hope Enes becomes a U.S. citizen.
This is monumentally off topic, but you mentioned it, so . . . before you talk about kicking Turkey out of NATO, take another look at the geography -- the Black Sea, the Bosphorus, the Dardenelles, and Russia's access to the Aegean Sea and on to the Mediterranean Sea, the Suez Canal, and/or the Atlantic Ocean -- or not.

Of course, if you think that Russia is a friend of the U.S., as opposed to being a mortal foe, then . . . well . . . I can't argue against ignorance.

So over the top with nonsense. Who here is worshipping Enes Kanter? Dude sacrificed a lot to speak out about what he believes in. He never gets to go home, he doesn't get to see half of his family, and now he cant even travel. I admire him for giving all that up to speak out on what he believes in.

You’re right about the geography but not the politics. Recently the Turkish leader has aligned himself with Russia and Iran. He staged a coup in order to carry out a purge of 40,000 academics, police and others who oppose him including Kanters family. If you think he is a reliable member of NATO then you have been living in a closet. Turkey has been buying up S-400 surface to air misiles from Russia breaking with NATO. The ignorance is in believing Erdogan will stand with NATO against Russia. The scenario that should concern you is an attack by Turkey against another NATO member nation. What then? Does NATO invoke article 5 and atttack Turkey? Erdogan has gone on record stating he will make “the world rise up”. This has less to do with Russia and everything to do Erdogans quest to rebuild the Ottoman Empire.

You still believe Turkey belongs in NATO without a monumental shift away from the fundamentalist Muslim brotherhood led government??

Very true. Erdegan is a perfect *******, He wants to create another Ottoman dynasty and continue what they did a century ago massacring innocent people. Remember what they did to Armenian, Assyrian and Kurdish people? A million and a half massacre of Armenians alone,
America thinks he is our ally, little most of our politicians know, that Turkey hates Americans too.

To those who think Enes is just stirring stuff up and getting his family in trouble, it sounds more like his father and family were already in trouble with them. The below ESPN article discusses this.

They’ve been involved with a US-based Turkish cleric who Turkey claims tried to coup the government in 2016. And claim they have evidence that Enes’ dad has been collaborating with such subversive groups.

What Enes did may have been stupid and a misjudge, but he is not the bad guy here.

Free speech is the bedrock of the US, The West, democracy, capitalism, and everything that has been positive in this world for the past 300 years - it's already protected poorly enough in Canada, Australia, and much of Europe and now this Erdogan trash is completely doing away with all the pleasantries and installing a blanket of silence over Turkey, which is a hugely important country for historical, geographical, and political reasons.

Enes was being an idiot. Erdogan is symptomatic of the greatest threat our species faces in 2018.

We really don't have free speech anymore. In around 10 years hate speech will be defined and enforced. That will be the end similar to what has happened in parts of Europe. We must agree with one side in particular or face consequences. That's where we are today.

It's sad what they're doing to this country and good people who aren't savvy can't see through it. It will be too late when they do.

Yeah, I don't think any of us are in a position to tell someone that comes from a repressive regime how to behave towards those who run that government.

It is hilarious that you think our politicians, and the intelligence officers who provide intel to them, apparently have no clue as to the real political climate in Turkey, but yet you somehow have a more clear and specific grasp on the geo-political situation than they do.

No. There's a resistance. The "intellectual dark web" is starting to have major sway on the YouTube community and by extension, the next generation. Don't give up - spread Peterson, Murray, Rubin, Weinstein, Shapiro, etc

We have already done it. Science is of the Devil and libruls. Anti-vacciners, anti-climate changers, flat earthers, creationists, Q nutjobs, and any of the other thousands of conspiracy theory pumpers. Actual scientific data doesn't mean **** compared to some moron's feelings according to about half of the US. We are becoming much more similar to the Arab world than we are different, it's just different in appearance.

Jesus Christ, the fact that you actually believe what you write scares me more than any of the ******** you posted.

Just look at how a hurricane that’s happening at this moment is being reported on.
Normal weather patterns are being treated as catastrophic. Headlines are being used to dictate public opinion.
