We are a third through the regular season and the I8 is a bit shaken up. Wilmo is in trouble and desperately needs to turn it around if they still want to qualify for the playoffs. Their remaining schedule is tough so every win is crucial from here on. For a team that I was so high on to make a deep playoff run there is a bunch of work that needs to be done if that is going to be the case. Truth be told I would love to see Wilmo/Lisle rematch in the postseason.

Any news on Skubic of CC? Heard he was injured. When you're physical like him it's a luck game. Hope it's not serious. Love watching that kid run downhill.

Winners- Lisle....Set themselves up nicely to make the playoffs. Gotta be loving a win over Wilmo.
Sandwich....great start to the season. Schedule looks favorable for playoffs now.

Losers- Wilmo- Need a lot of work. Could be the end of the conference kings run.
Streator- If they had any hope to make playoffs the last two weeks have killed them and it's going to pretty darn tough now at this point.
Manteno- I would say their playoff chances are done now. Injuries killed them. They have a really tough schedule too.

Question of the week? Is Sandwich for real? How good are they? I could see them 7-2 or 8-1 depending.......They do have a history of being a very up and down team....is this an up year? 4A is really tough so maybe they won't do much in playoffs but they are still turning heads getting there.

Look for the preview for week 4 soon

Add Peotone into the mix. They were a missed 2pt conversion attempt against Tinley Park from being 3-0. This week's game against Lisle looks intriguing.

Skubic has a sprained ankle. Got it on the first play of the game against Herscher. I think he could be ready to play but if I had to bet I would say they will rest him another week.

Week 6 CC @ Sandwich looks like it might be the Large Conference title game. CC does not normally play well over there.

Wilmington put themselves in a lot of trouble losing to Lisle. Need to right the ship.

Congrats to the Lisle Lions on busting up Wilmos 52 (I think) Small Conference win streak

The 'tone has been in the mix. They have built their program up nicely and should make the playoffs.

I'd say have him go light until Sandwich game. He could be the difference in a tight playoff game and they will need him late in the year.

Sandwich, in my opinion, is a pretender...sure, they are 3-0, but against opponents who are a combined 0-9...having watched both Wilmington & Sandwich play Manteno, the Wildcats I saw week one were better than the Indians I saw week 3...Manteno's offense is not comparable week 1 to 3 without Warren - but scored the same number of points against both...

The difference on offense was major, in my opinion, between the Indians and Wildcats. Manteno did not stop Wilmo once on it's own...the possessions the Cats did not score on were because of penalties, fumbles, basic shooting themselves in the foot. Manteno, other than the opening drives of both halves (which, admittedly, the Indians sliced through them like a heated electric knife through hot butter), shut down the Indian attack...For the most part the Panthers' interior defense shut down the dive runs...

Now, Manteno is in real trouble...four ints, three lost fumbles by the QB, and the numbers could have been far worse...he dropped a couple more snaps he covered, and the receiver screen is screaming pick me & take me home mr. corner...Plano, Streator, RC all 1-2 the next three weeks, maybe the Panthers upset one...

Herscher, Peotone, Lisle are clearly on playoff runs...CC should go 8-1...Sandwich playoffs 6-3 maybe...Wilmo can sneak in, but realistically they need to beat Sandwich this week so they don't have to beat Herscher or Peotone...

Sandwich will need 6 wins to get in but I think they will get them. CC and Sandwich will be the only teams from the Large to get in

I know its early and this weekend will shake a few questions up but this is where Cal Preps has the I8 finishing

Small
Lisle 8-1
Peotone 7-2
Herscher 6-3
Wilmington 5-4
RC 3-6

Large
CC 8-1
Sandwich 6-3
Plano 3-6
Manteno 1-8
Streator 1-8

I know Cal Preps isnt perfect but it gives a decent scale

I can't complain to much if that's how it happens.....I have complained for the last few years how weak the I8 was and how easy it was in the small. I am all for competition.

Granted Wilmo has a tough schedule, but I would at least expect them to be competing in the games they lose. What is the deal? I know the line is down and some say the play calling on offense needs to be expanded, but with an all-state back returning one would think they would be running wild. Most other years I would think that would be the case. I have seen some really weak defenses in 3A/4A ball over the years, but their offense just isn't cutting it this year.

I saw them play Manteno and they controlled the line of scrimmage pretty easily. Against CC they were non existent. Their line play needs to vastly improve and honestly they need to find a set of pass plays that work. They might want to think about going three or four wide every blue moon. They scored 7 points in the last 8 quarters. Never thought I would think that a week 4 matchup with Sandwich is an absolute must win for them. If Herscher keeps Hendrix at QB they will most likely beat Wilmington and Peotone is going to be favored in their game against Wilmington I would think

RC 3-6...
Manteno 1-8
Streator 1-8

Apparently beating Chicago Brooks wasn't just RC's only win...Manteno beating Streator & losing to RC doesn't make much sense...although RC going 3-6 doesn't help Wilmo because the Cats & Panthers are playing the conference round-robin...The Brooks win does help, however...

A few years ago (lets say 2012) the youth feeder conference had a bye week because Peotone & Monee had to merge their varsity (7-8 grade) programs for the year because both had too few players to have their own varsity teams...Manteno's Varsity coach came to scout the Wilmington program on his bye week...He diagrammed all of the Bobcat's plays by halftime...As a result, the Wilmo coaches were a little irritated with the scouting. The Cat's response was to come out on their first possession with the QB in shotgun, empty backfield, 5 wide receivers...They promptly fumbled the first snap and never went shotgun the rest of the season...
