Well we are officially done with non-conference games until playoff time so here are the picks as I see them.....

Braidwood @Peotone- Braidwood is flying high after their win last week but it won't be enough to stop the 'tone who wants to bounce back after a tough loss to Tinley. Biggest lock of the week! Peotone 35 Braidwood 7

Sandwich @Manteno- The question for this game and the rest of the season is "How good is Sandwich actually?" They are 2-0, but what does it actually mean.......Both teams are on momentum slides and with Manteno's QB out I don't see this game working too well for them......Taking the Road upset for the Indians Sandwich 17 Manteno 13

Wilmington @ Lisle- Lisle is looking tough and Wilmo hates that turf up north, but have you ever had to endure a Reents practice after an embarrassing loss. Both teams come out to play, and I won't pick against them, but specials could kill the wildcats. Game of the week! Wilmington 21 Lisle 20

Herscher @ Coal City- Herscher's wins have been unimpressive and the Coalers are looking damn good. Skubic rolls! Big win for CC Coal City 42 Herscher 21

Streator @ Plano- Both teams still hard to read but I think Streator is the better team.
Streator 21 Plano 7

I hope the game of the week, Wilmo vs. Lisle lives up to the hype. Should be a good one.

Crossover Herscher @ Coal City...Tigers take a huge step up from the 2A schools for the ranked Coalers...Skubic will likely run wild...Coalers should dominate...

RC @ Peotone...Devils rebound from losing at the 5A Tinley...Devils big...

Sandwich @ Manteno...Still don't know really how good the Indians are...losing Warren is huge for the Panthers...don't know where Haines will pull a rabbit from...Sandwich by 3...

Streator @ Plano...The Reapers machinery needs some maintenance...Streator big...

Wilmington @ Lisle...Cats house of horrors @ Benedictine...coming off worst game in years...Wilmington by 6...missed xp gets to the 6...

I am on the fence about going to this one......Nice facilities, decent amount of restaurants nearby, but I've been super busy lately and not sure the old lady will let me out. Should be a great game and the turf takes the weather out of the equation a little. It will be a game time decision for me. Where did Lisle play before? I feel like when I played there we were at a park district or public park of some type. Same for baseball I believe.

Specials will kill the Cats all year. Looked pitiful against CC as they couldn't even field a kickoff.......Hopefully they don't hurt them tonight.

They used to play at their Middle School I believe. No lights there

Also it's been a few years since I have been there, but isn't the atmosphere awful. Arn't the stands really far from the field? I seem to recall a very isolated field away from everything.

I remember going to Lisle in high school for their massive track invitational, which I now realize was actually held at the middle school on the best high school track I remember...red chevron track...I remember throwing the discus out of a cage for the first time there, long before cages or nets were required...the Lions were still playing their freshman games there a couple of years ago...

Wilmington looking rough again. Have under 50 yards of offense at halftime, losing 7-0.

Coal City dominates Herscher...Skubic injured first play of game...

Peotone thumps RC

Congrats to Lisle for breaking their 23(?) game losing streak to Wilmo...Wilmington's first I-8 small loss in like 10 years...

Plano takes out Streator...

Sandwich took what Manteno gave them... the Panthers' soph backup QB - forced to start by injury - threw 4 interceptions, one returned for a TD, and lost at least three fumbles in a 28-20 loss to the Indians. 14-8 Panthers at half...75 & about 50 yd TD runs for the Panthers scores...Panthers ran very well the first half, couple of multiple first down drives ended with ugly interceptions...Indians first possession both halves were extended TD drives largely on the ground...Sandwich's last possession 1st half was an extended drive ended by a red zone INT, other wise the Panthers pretty much shut them down the first half....Their third TD was set up by a QB dropped snap about the 20, and the fourth was the INT return...Panthers scored late on a drive aided by multiple Indian penalties...

Coalers controlled the game. Skubic gets hurt the first play of the game. CC is a different offense without him. Arias and Jezik filled in nicely and the passing game was crisp. Hutchings gets better every week. Defense was really good, shut down Dorsey. QB change for Herscher in the second half was good. That kid is a nice athlete.

Congrats to the Lisle Lions

I have faith in Wilmo's coaching staff, they've been doing it for years, but they need to quickly figure out a way to move the ball offensively to keep their playoff streak intact. Their schedule stays pretty difficult for the next few weeks, siting at 1-2.

Rarely can someone say this, but Wilmington needs a win badly...and they go to Large Division leader Sandwich? Having watched both teams play very different Manteno squads, I foresee a very interesting game...Sandwich has a serviceable single wing working, while the Cats' double wing has sputtered...And Sandwich actually has a functional passing game...

That said, I joked late in the second quarter that maybe I was at a Wilmington game after the Panther running attack was remarkably successful in the first half...But the 75 yard td run by Lopez on the jet sweep is definitely not in the Wilmington playbook...and the 50ish yarder was a back spinning out of a tackle - definitely Wilmington style...The running game was definitely to the left, behind the Gesky boys, but the dive runs were also working fairly well...Sandwich's difficulty shutting down the Panther running game bodes well for the Wildcats...

That said, Manteno's problem right now is obviously QB...Borkenhagen is not particularly good on deeper crossing routes, unless he's supposed to throw the ball to the safety...but he's better on deep routes than Warren...you can only throw the receiver screen so many times before it gets jumped for a TD, they need a short slant as well to relieve some of the pressure...The Panthers might have put up 50 points with Warren...and I suspect Lopez is going to start having two guys follow him once he leaves the locker room...

The Panthers' success running against the Indians out of the spread makes me wonder if this is the week Reents breaks out the read option...Dempsay at QB making the read (it was so effective with Weaver & Hawkins in 2015)...

If anyone can turn the Wildcats season around its Reents. Best coach in the I8. That being said, the coaching staff has to take some blame. They continue to ignore trying to establish any kind of passing game. They've always been like that. But in the past they've had the horses to get it done on the ground, its obvious that isnt the case this year. They have to add something's offensively or they will be struggling to make the playoffs. Sandwich, Herscher and Peotone still on their schedule

They obviously had the run game working vs Manteno. Is Manteno that much worse on D? Wilmington would certainly be well served to be a little more dynamic. They are not currently able to have much success at smash mouth against good defensive teams.
