As I asked in another thread, is there another backup on any team (including the GREAT Penn State) where a backup could move up TWO WEIGHT CLASSES and AA?
I'm not taking anything from Gabe, but 197 might have been the only weight class this was possible. Dude was all heart and did something that may not be possible again. He just wanted it, can't wait to see him at his natural weight next year.

The true freshman 125 pounder at Ped State that beat lilobridge in a tourney this year moved up to 141 for a match or 2. I have no idea if he could have AA'ed but I wouldn't doubt it.

Endene might have been in the finals in that weight class.

Tough to say. I feel like eventually his stature would have caught up with him. But could be wrong. Never know.

Maybe. They have had a number of guys wrestle a weight up for the good of the team and placed very highly if not won championships over the years. Have to figure they could have gotten on the podium going up one more.

I hate to speculate too much, as it takes away from what Arnold ACTUALLY did. Absolutely amazing effort.

Coach Phil, it's a post from another consistent Hawk hater. It's free fan forum and we have no moderation anymore, so we get infected slime like this now. This scum has no shame.
Congratulations to your son for a heroic effort at TWO weights about his ideal weight, and at 197 no less. Simply amazing. Please know how highly we regard your son.

Exactly??? He sat an ENTIRE season to watch them Kasak cows and FILL into a full sized 197. Arnold wrestled 174 THIS season.

if that is exactly alike, so are me and Mandingo!
That was my point. PSU had a plan and Brands simply let what happened happen. Gabe was put in this situation by these coaches. Why was he cutting to 174 for the Salute? Once Mo was gone why wasn't he given matches at 197 instead of 174. They had him cut to 174 for the PSU dual when they already knew he would go 197 in the post season. It was an amazing effort by Gabe, but it should have never been asked. Do you really think that was handled correctly?

I thought Gabe was over 200 lbs. last off season? How big was he before he cut all that weight?

You and I fundamentally disagree on what happened with Mo, so it makes it really hard for us to even begin to discuss this situation. Once they were sure Mo was done they weren’t wrestling Gabe at 174 long at all. PSU was in mid January and he had started his decent plan long before that. They ended up needing him at 184, because of Angelo’s injury, right after that.

They soon KNEW Arnold at 197 was the best option, but there was NO POINT having him wrestle the rest of the season undersized, when he can comfortably make 184 and still wrestle it in the postseason if some type of complication ended up keeping Angelo out.

In the end, they made the best possible adjustment they could have when it mattered most. I wish they could have somehow got to Williams as well. But, I guess his Instagram showed he had different priorities…

That is fair. I respect the heck out of Gabe and the team player he is.
