The story of this tourney so far IMHO. What a great story. He will wrestle 174? next year. Just want some positive vibes from a guy who truly wanted to be a Hawkeye.
I'm not taking anything from Gabe, but 197 might have been the only weight class this was possible. Dude was all heart and did something that may not be possible again. He just wanted it, can't wait to see him at his natural weight next year.As I asked in another thread, is there another backup on any team (including the GREAT Penn State) where a backup could move up TWO WEIGHT CLASSES and AA?
The true freshman 125 pounder at Ped State that beat lilobridge in a tourney this year moved up to 141 for a match or 2. I have no idea if he could have AA'ed but I wouldn't doubt it.As I asked in another thread, is there another backup on any team (including the GREAT Penn State) where a backup could move up TWO WEIGHT CLASSES and AA?
Endene might have been in the finals in that weight class.GA placed about the same Endene might have. It's possible we could have won another dual with Endene in the lineup, but in this tourney we're not missing him

Unlikely, but possible. Either way going into the year most Iowa fans would’ve taken 7th from Endene, which we got anyway.Endene might have been in the finals in that weight class.
Actually yes but that's not relevant. I noticed that Arnold is slightly shorter than Terry. That time of the month again already, Lisa?
If anyone ever needs to see a post that is totally classless - just show them this one.So cute how people are crying tears of joy over a sawed off mental case finishing 7th.
He's a Hawk, so yes, I'm rejoicing. AAing in a weight class 23 lbs above your certification is amazing. So cute how people are crying tears of joy over a sawed off mental case finishing 7th.
Agree...As opposed to lisa morales... who I hear is 5'1" and wrestles at 310.He's a Hawk, so yes, I'm rejoicing. AAing in a weight class 23 lbs above your certification is amazing.

What was Stephan Buchanon's ranking? Your right, coaching does matter.Crazy to think Gabe was ranked ahead of Josh Barr coming out of high school. Coaching matters.
Did Barr bump up to heavyweight and AACrazy to think Gabe was ranked ahead of Josh Barr coming out of high school. Coaching matters.
Suppose any of those other AAs at 197 will be bumping down to 174 next year? Probably not... Go Gabe.Did Barr bump up to heavyweight and AA![]()
Glad to see you back. Congrats to Gabe. Hope to meet you in Carver. Why? Why?…… why is someone picking on my vertically challenged kid??? Who does that??? Do you people know the size of the step ladder they needed to get his *** on the podium.
For shaaaaaaaame. For SHAAAAAAAAAME.
I swear…. YOU people never change.
FIFY.Crazy to think Gabe was ranked ahead of Josh Barr coming out of high school.CoachingKasak "steaks" matters.

Everyone knows you’re all salty about your buddy Mo and the Brands but give it a rest in this thread. Looks like The combo of Gabe and TNT did pretty good here.Crazy to think Gabe was ranked ahead of Josh Barr coming out of high school. Coaching matters.
Exactly??? He sat an ENTIRE season to watch them Kasak cows and FILL into a full sized 197. Arnold wrestled 174 THIS season.No. He bumped from 174 to 197 exactly like Gabe Arnold.
Just always remember it’s some, not all of us. Congratulations and well done! Why? Why?…… why is someone picking on my vertically challenged kid??? Who does that??? Do you people know the size of the step ladder they needed to get his *** on the podium.

Coach Phil, it's a post from another consistent Hawk hater. It's free fan forum and we have no moderation anymore, so we get infected slime like this now. This scum has no shame. Why? That was my point. PSU had a plan and Brands simply let what happened happen. Gabe was put in this situation by these coaches. Why was he cutting to 174 for the Salute? Once Mo was gone why wasn't he given matches at 197 instead of 174. They had him cut to 174 for the PSU dual when they already knew he would go 197 in the post season. It was an amazing effort by Gabe, but it should have never been asked. Do you really think that was handled correctly?Exactly??? He sat an ENTIRE season to watch them Kasak cows and FILL into a full sized 197. Arnold wrestled 174 THIS season.
if that is exactly alike, so are me and Mandingo!
I thought Gabe was over 200 lbs. last off season? How big was he before he cut all that weight?Exactly??? He sat an ENTIRE season to watch them Kasak cows and FILL into a full sized 197. Arnold wrestled 174 THIS season.

You and I fundamentally disagree on what happened with Mo, so it makes it really hard for us to even begin to discuss this situation. Once they were sure Mo was done they weren’t wrestling Gabe at 174 long at all. PSU was in mid January and he had started his decent plan long before that. They ended up needing him at 184, because of Angelo’s injury, right after that. That was my point. PSU had a plan and Brands simply let what happened happen. That is fair. They soon KNEW Arnold at 197 was the best option, but there was NO POINT having him wrestle the rest of the season undersized, when he can comfortably make 184 and still wrestle it in the postseason if some type of complication ended up keeping Angelo out.
In the end, they made the best possible adjustment they could have when it mattered most. I wish they could have somehow got to Williams as well. But, I guess his Instagram showed he had different priorities…
