I'm trying to confirm it with NU now. Jeff Goodman tweeted it, too. My guess is it's true.

Not good. In my mind the main problem is not postponing and less rest at some point down the road. It's the fact that several players will come back from illness in not so tip top shape.

Bad News: NU is dealing with a COVID outbreak (can't imagine injuries are playing a big role in this since we have been pretty healthy). I hope everyone has mild symptoms and a quick recovery. Could hurt us later in the year when we have more games in less than days.

Slightly Good News: I have my bowling league on Wednesday nights, so this will likely be rescheduled on a day/night that I am actually able to watch!

Tuesday, February 7th could be a good make-up date. Both teams currently have Monday, 2/6 – Wednesday, 2/8 off that week.

What's the cutoff for scholarship (or any) players required to play a game? And how many scholarship players does NU have with Hunger out for the year, obviously the 8 rotation guys but do Martinelli/Dixon/Smith or even Hurlburt count if they're healthy?

I remember hearing "6 scholarship players" when UConn had to postpone a game earlier this year.

But I don't know if it "6 or more" or "more than 6"

I think you need 6.

actually you need 7.
The six I heard was "they only have 6, so by rule they have to postpone."

IA has an internal policy that they will forfeit the game if there are not more than 6 white boys in buzzcuts on the roster.

Covid is a major thing. I’ve had all five shots. Am part of the 6% of us adults who are fully vaccinated. And I got it in December. It is not fun.
But it's not a "thing" in the sense of indefinitely cancelling sporting events, dude ... not to 99% of us who understand the statistical risk of hospitalization or serious illness. We never cancelled games for the flu, and it has become statistically similar. This is not the hot-button issue so many people were gallantly hopping onto for self worth in the past couple of years, there isn't even a COVID protocol for the league!!

Moving past the reference to COVID culture wars (RIP Rant Board), I agree that our society has largely resumed something close to normal life and accepted you have a baseline COVID risk when you go into a public place. The question is whether the conference should require asymptomatic players or guys with light symptoms to play. I would feel uncomfortable with that.

Let's not do this here. The game is canceled no matter what you believe. So let's just save everyone this same ol' debate.

Between incisive basketball commentary, a Flint Tropics avatar, and excellent application of farm boy stereotypes, you’re a stealth candidate for 2023 poster of the year. On behalf of everyone, thank you.

Thanks!

I must confess the farm boy knowledge is fueled by Mrs. Gato. Who grew up in a town of 700, balls deep in MN.

The type of area where men, at most by the age of 25, are wearing baseball caps in all occasions: indoor, outdoor, probably while taking a shower. Way before any battles with baldness.

With all due respect to folks who are willing to use sterotypes as a source of humor (and fear not the nannies)...

Gato is a perennial candidate for poster of the year.

Your wealth of knowledge about the game, your passionate community, and your ability to bring people together from all over the world, all add up to something truly beautiful.

I love the way you keep me informed about the latest developments in the basketball world, the way you spark my imagination and inspire me to be a better fan. I love the way you connect me with like-minded people who share my passion for the game, and the way you foster a sense of community and belonging.

I love the way you never judge me for my opinions and thoughts, always accept and support me, no matter what I post. You always provide me a safe space to express my thoughts and feelings, to ask questions, and to learn.

I know that we've had our ups and downs, but I want you to know that I will always be here for you. I will always be your dedicated user, your loyal fan, your loving admirer.

I have actually been to Balls Deep, Minnesota. It's past Ball Club on the way tor Fargo, just before Climax, right around the bend from Kiester. Just be glad it's not near Twig...

Created with ChatGTP and I'm mildly terrified.

This inspired me to run a test that made me feel momentarily better about my own future ...

Can you compare the coaching tenures of Bill Carmody and Chris Collins?

Bill Carmody and Chris Collins were both head coaches for the Northwestern University men's basketball team, but their tenures were quite different.
Carmody was the head coach from 2000-2013. During his tenure, he took the team to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history in 2017, and also won several NIT tournament appearances. He had a record of 248-206 in his 13 seasons at Northwestern.
Chris Collins took over as head coach in 2013 and led the team to their second NCAA tournament appearance in 2017, and also led the team to the NCAA tournament in 2021. He has a record of 156-103 in 8 seasons.
Overall, Collins has been more successful in terms of winning percentage and NCAA tournament appearances, but Carmody spent a longer period of time leading the program and had more overall wins.

Indeed! I will sleep better tonight. I asked the AI if it was affiliated with Skynet. But did not buy the response that it was not.

That 2017 appearance really should count twice. It was that amazing!!

Holy crap, Iowa fandom on Twitter is off the deep end about this. Making it sound like we are purposely avoiding a game against the 1991 UNLV Runnin Rebels since the Hawkeyes have won a few games in a row. It also gives them a chance to participate in one of their past times too, bitching about COVID and the vaccine. That fan base never ceases to amaze me.

Can you imagine how these children will react if we win the make up game? 😂 Here’s to hoping cause that will be must see entertainment.

As others have said, there are better places to engage in this discussion. However, I do want to call out that we have cancelled games due to flu outbreaks and there are many examples of other programs doing the same.

They were completely set for an upset. Win last game they had no business winning. Had a huge comeback the game before. We lost 2 in a row and either could have been wins. This timing hurts us more than helps!
