Yes and no. The difference is that there are tests available for players who are non-symptomatic that with a positive result keep them from playing. No such tests existed for players with non symptomatic flu.
Remember how we praised that basketball icon Jordan who played while he was sick as a dog.
Reminiscent of Duke beating UNLV in 1991. For sure.

Can anyone speculate when NU will make a decision about Saturdays game vs. Wisconsin? We're planning on driving down, but I have a feeling the game may be postponed. Well wishes to all the 'Cats who are battling health issues.
What NCAA tourney appearance was that that Carmody took them to again? 2017 several years after he left?
Actually this is what I had ready to post after our inevitable Iowa loss. The team is reeling. COVID isn't helping, of course, but I saw the makings of a patented CCC losing streak
As a somewhat significant COVID skeptic who was already pretty tempted to make a joke about 5 shots not being good enough, I also agree with this in that one silver lining out of COVID is a general greater normalization if staying home if you’re sick, whether it is COVID or just a cold. I don’t want your crappy cold just you can show how tough you are to the boss man, man! Just stay at home, work from home if needed, and don’t spread me your crud!
Just recovered from COVID, and I wonder if this will impact the rest of the season. I don't think you come back 100% for some time. At least for me, I'm still feeling a bit winded when balling. And it isn't just my age showing. The young 20 year olds in our run, especially the bigs, seem to be having an even harder time coming back.
I wonder also if our COVID management was a big part of us winning the West in football in 2020. And back then it wasn't Omicron, it was Delta. While other schools got hit hard, and their players may have not been 100%, we did remarkably well in staying healthy. After now having dealt with COVID myself, I think it may been a big factor.
Can you imagine if the conference had an outbreak traced back to Evanston? What would Iowa fans demand then?
(I wonder if we are contact tracing since it is well into the conference season already …)
Who are the six players available to play? I've read that seven scholarship players are needed to avoid postponement. Does this number apply when we chose not to fill all our available scholarship spots? Also, is there any scholarship player besides Hunger who cannot play because of injury?
Covid usually takes at least ten days from discovery to clear test. And at least for someone 70 years old the impacts are felt for a minimum of 3-4 weeks. So it would seem like 3-4 games minimum might be cancelled if multiple players have tested positive. Unlike earlier strains, this stuff is so transmissible you could catch it waving as you pass the guy in the toll booth.
NFL had a 5-day isolation, and guys were testing negative 4-5 days after testing positive. They should be ready for Wisconsin if they tested positive on Monday. And I don't think any of our players are 70+, most kids recover quickly if they even have symptoms.
OK, but if covid is symptomatic and you test it early, it runs for 5 days give or take. It takes a few more days to clear a test even if you feel better. This isn't me saying this, it is CDC, etc and half the medical doctors in the world. Everyone seems to have different experiences, however, so perhaps NU is fortunate and has what you describe as a best case scenario. I hope so.
