The people on the negative side (of which I am one, at least insofar as wanting change) were trying to have it both ways. Going in they were talking about "lucky to be 7th" and other wild takes. Then, when the team wrestled well, they refused to take the L.
For what this team was, that was a fantastic performance. It's a credit to the staff that they got that performance out of that squad. It can simultaneously be true that the squad being at that level is a problem and that's the fault of the staff, but the negatives refused to acknowledge being wrong about the first part.
