Amir is the better wrestler.
Martin is older and won fargo greco. He is pretty tough himself.
If Amir wrestles in college in iowa, it will be at isu.
The eyeball test says Amir is the much better wrestler but styles differ. Why ISU?

Fox of Osage a 4 timer.

I have a feeling we're gonna be adding quite a few 4 timers over the next couple of years..............

They just robbed South Central Calhoun kid in State Finals. That was horrible. Kid was out with 8 seconds left and they wouldn't give him an escape. I've got no dog in the fight, but that was BAD!
Same ref just made another questionable stall call to send it to overtime at 165

Not the worst call ever. He wasn't making much of an effort to get out.
its not the worst call ever, but its a horrible call. there's clear loss of control, the SCC wrestle attempts to score from that position, and it then ends in a stalemate. If the ref had waited on calling the escape because he wanted to see if it turned into a reversal, fine, but once that didn't happen, go back and reward the one.

Agreed, kid was just getting to his feet from bottom and he called a second stall on the bottom. I thought he was working pretty hard against a tough rider personally.

No, the stall call at 165 wasn't a terrible stall call IMO. The call at 106 was terrible!

Did I hear them correctly? Won 2 years ago and missed last year with a torn ACL?

Not sure how he was the 5 seed this year because he was a horse this weekend.
Was at 150 two years ago, but was undefeated this entire year. Idk maybe he just didn’t wrestle any of the top ranked guys?

Ross makes opponents look like they are new to wrestling. Incredible.
Right. None of the other 3A HWTs are D1 guys but they looked like they first put on a singlet last week against Ross.

Jax, Raneys, Lockett and Ross. Gonna be some fireworks in Stillwater! Okie might be able to take out PSU in 2-3 years!

It seems like we have gotten away from building depth pieces with in state kids. Watching this tournament makes me think we need to get back to that. 10 years ago it seems like we had backups who would come in with grit and scrap. Guys who would win big ten matches in spot starts. Seems like now it’s out of staters who aren’t bringing that.

Merrill just a redshirt freshman, Vega, 157 freshman, another top 10 pfp lightweight in 27, but don’t know if he can make 125, and Zinkin who skyrocketed th Ed rankings this year, plus Ramirez redshirting probably. Going to be a bit of a traffic jam in their light to light middleweights.

They brought in a giant group of room guys about 3 years or so ago. It was pretty much the class that year. They are mostly all gone. The Iowa name isn't holding as much water these days for the few high end kids produced in the state. The roster limits are also a factor.

Just saying, we had guys like Glynn, Laux, Carton, Glosser, Kelly, Rhoads, etc. Maybe my memory is off but it feels like they brought something the current backups don’t. It’s not even on the list of top 5 problems the program currently has though. Hopefully the state continues to grow with the new clubs.

How may Iowa hs peeps have been national champs in the past 10 years? How many should there be given our history?

How was he 5 seed? Returning champ?
I believe the announcers said he will wrestle for UNI. Part of the seeding criteria is last years state tournament placement, it would help explain his seeding?
The whole bracket looked wrong. The #1 seed from Emmetsburg was 28-2. There were two guys undefeated and one with one loss. He must have been a place winner last year and beat a bunch of guys in the bracket.

was the it the same ref in the 1A 106 match that didn't give the escape, but in the 2A 120 did give the escape, after not calling the jump on the restart, well after the clock went to zeros?

I'm going back and watching matches after rage quitting after the 106 match last night

Agree, he got screwed. It was blatantly obvious he was out for a while and working on short offense.
I believe the ref was down on one knee with 1 finger sticking out like he was ready to signal an escape, but was apparently waiting to see if he was gonna call a reversal instead. Whatever he was doing, it was wrong. Worst case the clock runs out and you give him 1 and head to overtime.

Poor kid was still visibly bawling on the award stand, which makes sense since he was denied the chance of a State Title by the worst non call in the history of the Tournament.

Ref's have a tough job, but this was bad. Must have been the MVP of an Angel Rivera Reffing camp at some point in time .............
