AJ is a beast, but there is a reason you rarely see guys bump up in DI matches. There is a very specific reason for weight classes. A full sized 184 is going to have a very rough time with a full sized 197. That is a very large size difference at that level. Remember how dominant Askren was? He bumped up to wrestle a pretty banged up Roger Kish from 174 to 184 and barely beat him. Mind you, we are talking about one of the most dominant wrestlers of all time...Honestly, I would be more worried about AJ getting hurt in that match than Elam somehow getting re-injured!
Angelo, not AJ, correct??

Iowa wins they will start at 125.
ISU wins and they should choose 141 or possibly 285 to force Iowa's hand at 285. Time will tell.
If nobody says anything at weigh ins it starts at 125. We may not even have a coin flip it doesn't happen every dual

I’m a huge buyer in Angelo stock, but this is nonsense. He will be a multiple time NCAA champ. But Angelo is not a big 184 and would have a significant size disadvantage. Plus he wrestles 1 TD matches vs anybody good. If zero time AA Fishback can take Angelo to OT, there is no reason to expect anything different from a 4x AA with a big size advantage.

I’m not even saying Angelo can’t win, but there is no way he is a decided favorite.
Zero time all American fishback was wrestling extremely well last weekend. Iowa state doesn’t know what they have because they haven’t wrestled anyone with a pulse yet. Dresser is a pos so they have that going for them I guess.

Nice analysis. You taking Fishback over Rocky then?

Why would he? Fishback is wrestling 184...
Cause he’s trying to say Fishback is so good that Angelo’s OT win over him makes him a clear favorite over Rocky. So, I assume that means he’d pick Fishback to beat Rocky as well.

So…. Will Jordan Williams be wrestling next weekend against Zerban? Or is he hurt or what’s going on there?

May be an outlandish take, but give me Jordan Williams over Zerban. This field is much more stacked than last year.

Pretty sure you are conflating his post with another poster's. His point is fair. You went after Angelo for "barely" beating Fishback in OT. That alone deserved the response he gave, regardless of anyone else wanting Angelo to bump up. To be fair, even I think Angelo bumping up to wrestle Elam would be pretty stupid and would absolutely consider Elam to be a favorite in that match. Elam isn't a small 197. Angelo weighing in a t184 would be giving up waaaaay too much...

Plus he is a 4 time AA who always beat Warner when he was only a freshman. There is a reason he’s number 2. Mo will be giving up a lot of height/length, but at least he’s a full solid 197. You also don’t want to put Ludington up against #4 and #2 197’s as his first duel experience. Even Angelo had an easier opponent than that his first duel, just a lot of pressure to win.

Given the 197 schedule appears softer in the New Year, these two matches should go to Mo. Will give him solid tests, and info to advance his game for March. No idea what the decision is

Elam's body has a lot more "wear and tear" on it now than when he wrestled Warner year's ago.
Dresser knows that and it's why he won't wrestle a full schedule this season.

The matchups might not happen, but I'd put the chances of both GA beating Dean AND Angelo beating Elam at better than 50%.

I really like that our guys wrestled top competition at the national duals & should all be better prepared than isu who has wrestled nobody with a pulse. One more dual against a respectable ranked opponent then 9 days to rest & prepare for cyhawk. Also I cant believe some people here want us to rest Endene tonight. F that! Get him out there & more battle tested against another top 10 guy

I mentioned thats what I would do. But after looking things over and giving it more thought you wrestle him tonight. Like @jrod65 said Stout has an easy schedule the rest of the way. He will see Lawrence and Sasso but not much else and at Midlands the competition at 197 isn't great. Save Harvey and his dates for later in the season.

Remember the days when wrestlers would have 40-plus matches?
Even when it started to trend downward, I remember Edinboro was still getting most of their guys damn near 50 matches per season. If I remember correctly Gillespie had over 150 wins in his career and double digit losses. I seem to recall Schopp having a ton of matches a couple of seasons, too...

Yep, that's another one. Noto had 37 matches a couple years going 34-3. Crazy thing is, one of his opponents just last year was Colton Camacho of....you guessed it, Edinboro. He was 27-14 just last season...he actually was 30-14 if you count his D2 and D3 opponents that season...

A few years ago they had a kid RS later in his career and he had 51 Jonathan Ross was 43-8. If you go on WS and look at 2018-24 they have multiple guys in the 40s. Chance had 42 and 30 his 2 years at LH

Hope those guys are OK, and not in some rehab facility with MLB starting pitchers that accidentally throw over 6 innings and are ruined for life. 😉

In regards to bumping up Angelo to face Elam. His quickness could lead to a slight upset win but keep the Ferrari in the garage. If a guy is worried about keeping a shoulder healthy....show up with Mo Diesel and lets get physical.

Also Mo is pretty raw with a late start in the sport so the more matches the better. Could argue he has the highest upside of any ranked 197 because of that.

Not sure why, but after reading that I conjured up a vision of a young Olivia Newton-John in an Iowa singlet. 🤔
