Hello disgruntled fan here. Gonna step in and do a honest take on the grades this time

Peterson D- didnt really attempt to do anything as usual. His win against spratley was clutch, but not really repeatable last time. So this result is not surprising
Ayala F- he wrestled scared and provided nothing after the opening scramble. Would honestly be suprised at this point if he placed higher than 7th.
Peterson C- My stupid self thought peterson was actually going to take vega down for the first time this year. And he gave me all the reason to. But he fell into a mistake that you knew vega was looking for. Hopefully he will be better as our starter down at 133 next year.
Ryder-A. Worked very hard for the tech. Very solid against an opponent that wasnt very good. Hopefully he cant ride this confidence into big tens
Williams C- big improvement compared to the result voinivich had against Landon. But got ridden out the whole 3rd. Struggles on bottom and fades in matches. This may come as a surprise to some of you (Corby included, who im sure has some incredible insider info not even the coaches have on the situation) but I wholeheartedly believe he is a 149 and our situation would be better if he and block switched next year.
Caliendo. A- solid win, great for seeding. If he loses to blaze again. Small chance he still sees the opposite side of the bracket from messinbrink
Kennedy A- the best he has ever looked against facundo. Who is probably a blood round opponent.
Arnold C- destiny doesnt want arnold to ever beat ryder. But arnold even if he got hosed by the stall call and takedown call. Should maybe, ya know. Try to score more in regulation. Hes got the tools, he just never uses them.
197 and hwt- wash. Would be mid tier guys in D3.
I love the little handshake thing merrill does after his matches. Dude is hilarious

125 - c - (Peterson winning the national duals match was a fluke in general but this performance was still bad)
133 - D- senior beaten down by a freshman. Terrible.
141 - b. Did better than most probably expected
149 - A. Did what needed to be done vs a lower tier wrestler
157 - c. Lost to a better wrestler but tried
165 - A- stalled at the end but kept game plan and composure. Solid win.
174 - A. Workman like performance.
184 - b. Crappy ending, solid performance..
197 - D. Beaten up by a better kid.
285 - F. Pinned in a navy tilt. Kick him off the team.

Im still curious what happened with Sampson and the pin. Was he injured when landing? Weight wasnt on him to where he couldn't have got off his back it looked like

To some fans no apparently.. I was being sarcastic. I personally think tonight is the for sure end of the brands. Regardless of what happens next month which isn’t looking real bright.
It feels like they're limping to the finish line. Do they have the self-awareness to recognize this in themselves and in the program? That's a serious question. I don't know the answer.

Duals are the only thing that most fans pay to see. Mostly hardcore types at Nationals.

Saying stupid things like, it's none of your business and duals don't matter is a good way to find yourself unemployed. So is having attendance in CHA drop again.

Well, he's not a good wrestler and got horsed by an elite level wrestler.
Im not disputing the disparity in talent. It just appeared like a "I give up" on a first pass watch on that straight to back takedown with no movement when there was space between bodies momentarily ... even if the end result was likely to come.

Yep I’m on your side. I made a sarcastic comment that other brands loyalists would make. Duals absolutely matter and are a huge thing for our sport. Iowa just got embarrassed (again) on national tv. That’s not a good thing and yes carver attendance has shown it’s going in the wrong direction

Again, I don't know what you want from the guy. He got his arse whipped and laid down for the pin. I would have predicted that result 10/10 times against Merrill.
I'm more concerned about our 2x finalist getting teched.

However, both are indicative of the issues in our program. Our 5th year seniors get passed by and our depth is poor. Don't blame Sampson, Blame Tom!

I'd want a guy representing Iowa to fight and not "lay down for a pin". Replying on an overall grade thread where the weight was skipped being mentioned, but I felt it noteworthy - I agree on the larger pain points and agree where the blame needs to land.

Reminiscent of the Minnesota post-match interview of Brands: "that cant happen. That won't happen." Hmmm....

I personally don’t think so(I could be wrong) here’s the thing.. anyone could coach Iowa to a top 10 finish. Iowa is still Iowa. And kids are still going to come to Iowa. Plus, where else are they going to go? The top teams are pretty full.
Vtech ncst come to mind but yes i agree not many others

WE HAVE NOTHING ELSE at 197!!! Mo quit or got fired. Ludington is out of dates. Gabe is covering for Angelo.

Why are we even discussing Sampson? He's literally our 4th best option going up against a top 10 national recruit. He's going to get pinned almost every damn time in this situation. He's not the problem, he's just the guy on the mat representing the problem.

You definitely represent your screen name.

Iowa won 4 matches (Gabe won that match with any ref other than that home-cookin dipshit). They were the 4 I expected/hoped would win other than 125. I wanted Dean to win, but knew it was a coin flip at best. Drake was closer than that score, but Jax is an assassin and isn't going to lose many matches in the next 3 years. Jax is my pick at 133 this year, which is why I knew he was getting his shirt pulled today. Didn't expect Drake to beat him, but he needs to wrestle much better than that to be competitive. Backups getting pinned doesn't move the needle for me. The coaches don't seem to care at all about duals anymore, which sucks for us fans. Iowa should be healthy by B10s as half the starters have missed more matches than they wrestled this year.

If TnT are even back next year they are going to care when CHA season ticket sales drop like a lead balloon. Like I said before, most Iowa fans have never gone to nationals but they enjoy going to CHA to watch a top wrestling program wrestle exciting matches.

Soooooo ummmm, about that. We aren't a top 5 team. We wrestle ****** matches and our coaches don't care about duals or the fans. Maybe the next head coach will. Tom has taken the fan base that has supported him since 1989, for granted.

Not a good showing on national TV. Six wrestlers with no takedowns. Three guys got pinned. Didn't help that three starters sat on the bench, presumably because of injuries. Team seems tired and stale.
No takedowns, pins and a lack of guts. There is absolutely no evidence that the Brands require anything the team lacks coaching. There is nothing to look forward to the rest of this season. This is the worst season of the since before the Brands were born!

Depends on who you are calling top teams.

Gabe was celebrating like a national champ at the end of a match he lost. LOL.
I’m sure Ryder was as surprised as anyone when ref called stalling right after Gabe escaped that single leg. I’ve seen that senerio hundreds of times, with a guy escaping a takedown attempt when out of bounds, and the other guy leaping out of bounds like he’s getting a takedown attempt, and everything is blown dead since they are both out of bounds. First time I’ve seen stalling called. Especially in an overtime where it would decide the winner. Just disgusting, especially after seeing Lockett sprint to the edge all the time before engaging at all. And only getting one stall.

It's not the first time I've seen that called like that (and Rock Harrison expected it), but yeah, it was a pretty cheap call for an SV winner. Harrison, the former official, said he thought Gabe should have had the takedown, but also agreed with the stalling call.

Not sure you know much about the Hawkeye wrestling program and it’s history.

The Brands were born in 1968, you have no clue about Iowa wrestling based on the above statement!
