No.

1967 Dave McCuskey "led" Iowa to a 7-8 dual record. Iowa would build towards becoming a powerhouse program shortly after that and wouldn't lose more than 5 duals in a year again until Jim Zalesky saw Iowa go 11-7 back in 2006. Tom Brands took over the following year.

So Iowa's 12-6 dual record this season is their worst in only 20 years.
7-8 with 1967 resources is possibly better than the current 12-6 team.

Redshirt, but they said there going to 133 and 149, presumably implying Forrest will go 141.
Forrest looked huge and Drake has a big frame for 133. I could see him growing into 149/157. Their top 10 pfp lightweight in 27, who already in mid 120’s, will be odd man out with Ramirez, unless they can cut to be career 125, then battle for who gets the spot. Forrest, Vega, big Raney, current 157 may have trouble separating in a few years

Yea Forrest is a lot taller and more lengthy than I expected. The way he can just wrap his leg around guys for a takedown looks goofy at times. Granted he is 19 already. May not fill out ever, may just be a scrawny strong type.

I know...and what does PSU do with Lilli, Desmond, Ono and Blaze next year? These poor, poor teams!
Meanwhile we're throwing out tier 2 Iowa HS wrestlers because we have zero depth.

So how untouchable will Dreshaun Ross end up being under David Taylor after seeing how this dual played out today (and Ok State's progress from the beginning of the season)?...............😶

Lockett on his knees should get dinged for stalling. Going for doggy style for 5-10 seconds at a time lmao
He also constantly backed up to the edge without being pushed until the end when had to start wrestling. I knew as soon as he started charging Mikey, and he moved to not get taken down, they would ding him for stalling. Predictable refs. Lockett should have been stalled out in that match. Mikey learned his lesson giving him too much respect that first match, but didn’t get sloppy. If he loses to Blaze, does he still end up 4 seed since him and Lockett split and Lockett will walk through big 12 tournament.

Scary, Taylor was with Penn State wrestling for 15 years. He's very intelligent, he knows the secret sauce. Cael protégé.

To understand the story here, just look at their top guys vs our top guys more than the actual match ups on the mat. So much more dynamic and technically advanced.

Guys like Ayala and PK are great. They’re fighting with rifles compared to the machine guns that DT equips his guys with. They can score in any position. They can pin you from any position.
I like the analogy, except I'd say DT in his first 2 years has demonstrated he's a good machine gun collector. Time will probably show he's good at polishing them too, but polished or not, machine guns take out alot of riflemen, especially if said riflemen run out of shells or load them wrong or too slow in the midst of battle.

Yes, Mikey needs to beat Blaze pretty decisively to jump to the #3 seed IMO. Blaze beat Mikey 7-4. I think Mikey needs to win by more than 3 points to swing the seeding, due to the fact that Blaze is still undefeated.
I don't think Lockett falls from #2 if he wins the Big12. He only has 1 loss and would have a tourney title.

Good examples. Why are these teams getting solid kids that may ride the pine, while Iowa can't even get solid backups? Sitting on the bench for few years in a quality room gives you a better chance at a title than being a 4 year starter in a program that gives you nothing more than a chance to start. That's telling when guys would think that gives them a better opportunity.

Absolute ******** on that call against Gabe
That made their first call look good. He slipped his foot out and stood up, was almost off stage. Stood still for a second, ready to walk back to center, Ryder charges out of bounds at him and they call stalling to end match. That is the worst of the worst stall calls of the year, and to hand it to Ryder in ot.

Ignacio Villasenor also coming in next year to be their 125 after Spratley. He beat Fred Bachmann in overtime at Doc Buchanan.

not sure where that leaves Ronnie Ramirez.
125 Villasenor
133 Raney/Forrest
141 Forrest/Vega
149 Vega/Raney
157 Raney/Robideau
165 Lockett/Robideau

I would guess everyone bumps up a spot when Facundo graduates. Still leaves no room for Ronnie Ramirez though. Ryder and Merrill both freshman and Ross coming to man heavyweight. They are loaded with young talent.

There is so much about Oky st with their cowgirl looking warm ups, cowboy hats and pistols in air thing, to their mascot and Locketts glitter shoes that just seems so gay and creepy. Even Taylor looks like a creep.
It’s performative

Meanwhile Carver was a morgue after duals this year. But Okie making their program an event is just too much!

Gosh, if only we had gotten that win at 184 and lost the dual 29-14 instead of 32-11!!! Everything would be better!!!

We are showing off now lol. I feel bad for Tom looking at him. You can see that he knows the end of the journey is approaching.
Our lineup is second rate compared to PSU and OSU. They have young, talented and hungry wrestlers that love to compete and love to be tested. We coddle our guys in the silver bracket of the Luther Open. No Iowa wrestler should ever be in the silver bracket of any D3 open, I don't care if they are a walk on.

So your ok with Gabe getting ****** twice in the match to lose in ot and you’re ok with it if the march isn’t on the line.

I cannot control how refs call the match. Good call, bad call, it happens.

1 match out of 10 the calls didn't go our way. I'm more concerned about the 6 matches where we got our arses handed to us, than the refs screwing us over in 1 match.

We get it, but we can only fire people so much. Usually just the once. Hiring them back just to fire them again because you're so upset about the job they were doing, can make things a little awkward.....................

Your biggest concern in this dual was Gabe losing a stall point which everyone watching at home and the commentators saw coming. Everyone else is concerned with our senior 2x finalist getting teched by a high schooler, our lack of offense and half our team being out with injuries.

They could wrestle 100 times and ayala ain't touching him. Probably wouldn't get a takedown in 100 matches either
Ayala had 2 great scoring chances early in this match, and pissed away both of them, because he's too slow. Then it was all downhill from there.

He's not making the podium this year, he can't match the youngster's speed, can't put on a tough ride, etc. He's cooked. Will be interesting to see how Byrd fares with the kids.

Haters gonna complain about Peterson getting pinnedby Vega, but Peterson was wrestling a good match and got caught being aggressive. Happens to the best of them.
It was Peterson's best match of the year, he did a lot of really nice work, gave Vega all he could handle. Then gets into a bad position he couldn't get out of (cause we suck at that). He deserved a better fate IMO, the effort was great, until it wasn't.....

I still cannot believe a very talented lightweight who has been in the room with TnT for 5 years got worked like that. I honestly don't think there's much of a true talent gap between 23 year old Drake and current Jax. I saw one guy wrestling like he was in a life or death battle (like TnT wrestled) and one wrestling like he was just going through the motions.
That kid showed the gap IN EFFORT between him and one of our best guys and it makes me sick.

We need to start fixing the program the day after nationals, if not sooner
In a better world this would have been sorted, and new staff in place ready to hit ground the moment nationals end and window opens. The guys could go to Cleveland to wrestle their backsides off to send Tom off on a high note - or as high of a note as possible (not 8th).
