I think losing Sandfort is the one that hurts the most out of all of them due to how to young he was and hadn't hit his ceiling yet.
If anyone could have used McCollum it was freeman.

Sandfort was no big loss because, like most McCaffery recruits, he was unable/unwilling to play adequate defense. McCollum demands defensive intensity. To his credit Sandfort saw the handwriting on the wall and packed his bags.
Agree-think Dix would have helped the start of McCollum era.
the new staff tried to retain Sandfort. He had one foot out the door already.
Freeman does not have the work ethic to play for McCollum.
Best thing Freeman did was work to get paid for a good freshmen year. Seems that’s all the kid really wanted.
I think Creighton fans would rather have him quit on this team too.

You really think Dix would have make a difference in the Michigan State game? I highly doubt it, as it is, Iowa is 8 and 1, 8 and 2 after Thursday and has covered the odds in 6 of the 8 games so far. Can't wait to see this team improve during the month long Christmas break.
Dix = Matt Gatens? I'm referring to the benefit of having a new coach at the end of a career. For both sides.
Freeman assume has health issues otherwise it's attitude also how many years does Hoibergs kid get he looks to be about 30 with that stupid headband from the 90's
Freeman lacks hustle and defense, not scoring. He has the body, just needed motivation. Not saying I wish he had stayded, just that he needed a coach like mccollum.
After trying to acquire bigs in the portal Ben basically said he wants to primarily develop bigs from within. We do have need for more size but Ben wants big men who buy into the culture and fit how he wants to play. Juric fits that description to a tee. As to the portal he wants to find guys that he can add for value. No comment on Freeman.
That's iffy, at best, imho.
He's been through two coaches now, and McDermott has to value defense more than McCaffery - I mean, who doesn't? - but despite that, Freeman still doesn't want to hustle or defend for his new coach and team.
At some point it just needs to be acknowledged .... maybe he just is what he is. Some occasional offense and a blocked shot or two, but that's the sum of his game.
Freeman did show a lot of potential and had some good games when he first came in. I'm surprised he hasn't continued to develop and gained more consistency.
I don't know how much money Creighton threw at him, or if there are performance incentives, but it doesn't seem like giving someone a bag of money and then hoping for the best always works out well.

I’m not really understanding Creighton’s strategy. They basically brought Dix and Freeman in to be two of their top three or four players. Then their top returning player from last year gets hurt for the season a couple weeks ago and now Creighton is staring at having one of their worst teams this century. Obviously having those two be your two best players (arguably) didn’t equate to winning basketball for Iowa the past couple years.

Dix should be getting more shots for the minutes he plays. I know there were times when he ran off screens to get open, but there were a few times where he was dancing around the perimeter, similar to another former Hawk. He was open on a couple of those, but didn't receive a pass. Not being a shot creator, he's more of a catch and shoot guy.
Freeman: I have no idea what's up with him.
Yea. I think just like at Iowa, people are wanting Dix to hunt shots a little more. He’s a good shooter and Creighton just lost their best shooter for the season, and almost everyone else new to the team has been awful shooting the ball so far.
