A most confusing post.A post on Facebook:
From everything I’ve heard (and I would know), it doesn’t appear that Mo left on his own. He was told he was no longer on the team, and no clear explanation was given for the decision. The lack of transparency and explanation from the coaching staff is quite literally unheard of at Iowa.
Based on my own time around the Iowa wrestling room, I know how confusing Tom Brands can be. His cryptic language and cult-like leadership is outrageous lmao. This situation fits that pattern! The decision doesn’t seem tied to anything in particular whatsoever, and I don’t think he was even given a clear reason for why things ended so abruptly.
If there was any straightforward communication whatsoever, we might understand why a top‑four wrestler in the country was removed from the lineup and potentially prevented from finishing out his season or competing at the national tournament.
Again, speaking from personal experience on this. **** is insane lol
Haha! I'll just follow the gifsHappy to text you live updates of the dual while in progress
Seattle. Beautiful area out here. Never been to BLT but may traverse it next time im down at Mt. Rainier National Park. Post hike treat potentiallyWhere are you at in the PNW? If you’re anywhere near Bonney Lake, go to the BLT (Bonney Lake Tavern) and ask them to turn one of the TVs to BTN. You’ll find the food there is pretty good and the waitresses aren’t so bad to look at either.
I could see Arnold going and Kennedy sitting. Result would be the same in the team score, but Kennedy would fare better for seeding later.Sorry if this was covered already tonight, but the Iowa match notes list Arnold as an OR at 174 with Kennedy, and list Ludington OR redshirt freshman Brody Sampson at 197.
You know it’s interesting. There is so much speculative crap popping up out there about this. Probably safe to assume most is flat out wrong (even though I suspect on balance this wasn’t an “innocent” separation). But if the brands are not careful, comms like this are going to take on a life of their own and become a self fulfilling prophesy, whether true or not.Another Facebook post:

Breaking: Massoma Endene is out at Iowa.
And when departures start stacking up, it’s no longer about the athlete.
One wrestler leaving is noise.
Multiple wrestlers leaving is a signal.
When high-level athletes cycle through a program this fast, it points to instability, not toughness.
Elite wrestlers do not abandon environments that are clear, aligned, and functional.
This isn’t about work ethic.
It isn’t about this generation.
And it isn’t about “who’s tough enough.”
It’s about whether the system still works.
At some point, accountability moves up the chain.
If a program can’t retain the talent it recruits, the issue isn’t effort — it’s leadership.
That puts pressure squarely on Tom Brands and Terry Brands.
Culture isn’t what you demand.
It’s what survives.
And right now, Iowa is showing turbulence — not stability.
This isn’t a one-off.
It’s a pattern forming.
If anyone calls him Scooter in KYPSW, I'm tossing them out of the game for the year. I won't be able to add picks, because I'll be laughing too hard. There are some great early BIG 10 tests for us here:
125 #2 Luke dec #6 Dean Peterson (luke gets his revenge) 3-0 PSU
133 #4 Marcus dec # 8 Drake Ayala (this will be a close one) 6-0 PSU
141 #7 Scooter dec #10 Nasir Bailey (his first big test at 141) 9-0 PSU
149 #1 SVN dec #12 Ryder Block (SVN will win it late) 12-0 PSU
157 #4 PJ maj dec Victor Vonivich (will dec if Williams) 15-0 PSU
165 #1 Mitch dec over #3 Mikey Caliendo (will pull away in 3rd) 18-0 PSU
174 #1 Levi dec over # 3 Patrick Kennedy (close to maj dec) 21-0 PSU
184 #4 Rocco drops one in SV to #1 Angelo Ferrari 21-3 PSU
197 #1 Barr dec #3 Massamo Endene (if Arnold maj dec) 24-3 PSU
HVY #12 Cole drops a 7-2 dec to # 5 Ben Kueter 24-6 PSU
Worst case scenario 18- 12
Best case scenario Rocco and Cole pull off a victory and we shut them out 30-0 (i dont think a shutout is likely as we peak in March)
I am confident that Rocco can win this one but he will see Angelo now and learn and beat Angelo in the post season when it counts regardless of the outcome Friday
so realistically 24-6 maybe 21-9
For guys who have been so close to the top step during their career realizing sometime during their senior year they aren't winning that championship is tough. HEW is real and for different reasons, but for those guys it can be devastating.Ayala I think has a case of HEW that is being exacerbated when he see what is at his weight class now and realizing 2 years ago, he just had to beat Richie Figs to win a title.

I was really looking forward to that match. Barr was going to smash him but it still would have been interesting.
What are the odds he will still be in the match notes. :-0
lol.Because his lungs can't take the fumes?
Who’s thinking what I’m thinking in that scenario?I could see Arnold going and Kennedy sitting. Result would be the same in the team score, but Kennedy would fare better for seeding later.
This is the kind of BS that I will never believe or spread (other than as obvious unserious sarcasm). This dude just had a baby. The far, far more likely explanation is that he was trying to juggle classes, fatherhood, and wrestling, and one had to go and he chose wrestling in order to be a better father, which is something no one here would ever blame him for.A post on Facebook:

Does it have to be only one of the above or can it be all of the above?Great example of what the internet actually is…. This news is only a few hours old and I’ve already read Endene:
- took the NIL $$$ and then quit
- never got his NIL $$$
- failed out grade wise
- was injured (neck)
- popped for steroids
- never liked it at Iowa and never fit in culture-wise
- wanted to just spend time with his family
Will they bump up Arnold and Ferrari? Isn't that their only chance to win, slim as it is?Sorry if this was covered already tonight, but the Iowa match notes list Arnold as an OR at 174 with Kennedy, and list Ludington OR redshirt freshman Brody Sampson at 197.

I miss the PNW. Awesome scenery and even better people. Make sure you get some Dungeness crab while you’re there!Seattle. Beautiful area out here. Never been to BLT but may traverse it next time im down at Mt. Rainier National Park. Post hike treat potentially
Not sure anyone on this board is coming out for PSU @ UW next football season but make sure to hit up Queen Anne Beerhall. Great burgers and beer selection
What’s worse is that Ayala actually seems like a decent guy too. It’s unfortunate that he chose to be part of a program that doesn’t seem to get the best results out of potential winners. For guys who have been so close to the top step during their career realizing sometime during their senior year they aren't winning that championship is tough. There is just a huge difference between PSU and Iowa. Ayala is still doing what he has always done. People adjust. Mesenbrink and Levi are crushing people from the top this year. Levi got beat by Hamiti at Nationals, he cleaned up his attacks and kicked Hamiti's *** at the team trials. What’s worse is that Ayala actually seems like a decent guy too. It’s unfortunate that he chose to be part of a program that doesn’t seem to get the best results out of potential winners.
Kamala is that you?Brands on how he views the test of facing Penn State:
"You're going to have to go to stay on the mat with them. You're going to have to score. And, you're going to have to score again and again to stay on the mat with them. And so this isn't coming down to whether this is going to be like normal, because there's nothing normal about this. And the thing is, we don't have normal guys in our room. So there is a choice. There is a choice here."
Moving Angelo up to Barr instead of Rocco also puts them in grave danger of being shut out in Carver, which would be a nearly unrecoverable embarrassment for that program. Will they bump up Arnold and Ferrari? Isn't that their only chance to win, slim as it is?
No. Brands doesn't bump his starters. Will they bump up Arnold and Ferrari? Isn't that their only chance to win, slim as it is?
I really feel bad for the kid, he's been a yo-yo for Iowa. I know he wants to be in the lineup badly, but man that is one hell of an ask to beef up for Barr. Its not good weight and certainly not healthy for Arnold. Will they bump up Arnold and Ferrari? Isn't that their only chance to win, slim as it is?
I think Tom meant to say that the Iowa wrestlers know what can be, but they just need to be unburdened by what has been.Kamala is that you?
What’s worse is that Ayala actually seems like a decent guy too. It’s unfortunate that he chose to be part of a program that doesn’t seem to get the best results out of potential winners.
Spencer channeling his inner Jack Reacher.Didn’t Spencer Lee try to publicly warn Ayala after giving him a beating at the ‘22 Soldier Salute? Something like, “Remember, you wanted this”?
Feel free to use whatever percentages you want, this exercise is more to illustrate probability math.
Let’s say the following are PSU’s chances to win each weight class:
125: 80%
133: 60%
141: 70%
149: 95%
157: 95%
165: 95%
174: 95%
184: 60%
197: 95%
285: 55%
The probability of all 10 winning using those odds is 8.6%.
I almost feel bad for the good Iowa wrestling fans out there. The bad news just never seems to stop.
I would love to see Jason on the PSU staff, soon.
