I think Tom meant to say that the Iowa wrestlers know what can be, but they just need to be unburdened by what has been.

Wartburg program probably. Poor fat Albert will have to wrestle 197 now. I can't wait to watch him waddle on the mat and take heads. Mo hurt his neck.

Anyone know how long slumlord bob has been around the program?

may be my bias but it seems since he’s been let off the chain in public, while his money to the program has gone up, the results in the program and hwc have gone down.

For all his money he seems have a very toxic personality in public settings
He is the sort of "friend" the program has that makes enemies jealous.

Moving Angelo up to Barr instead of Rocco also puts them in grave danger of being shut out in Carver, which would be a nearly unrecoverable embarrassment for that program.
The bump ups obviously depend on what happens at the lower weights. If there are upsets and Iowa has a chance to win, why wouldn't they do the bump ups? If they have no chance after 174 then ignore my post.

Personally, I don't know that it would make any sense under ANY circumstance. There's nobody that they throw out there who is likely to beat Levi at 174, so a push. Kennedy is far less likely to beat Rocco than Ferrari would be, so benefit PSU because of the bump. Ferrari is obviously more likely to beat Barr than Ludington would be, but still rather unlikely and you stand the very real risk of losing any potential points that he might have scored at 184 if you bump him. I don't really see Brands making this move, even in desperation or even if they DID win a weight or two that weren't expected.

Forgive me. I am an old guy and not up on all the lingo. What does HEW stand for?
AndEes answered, but I didn't want you to think I was ignoring your question.
HEW = Had Enough Wrestling
Guys who have been dedicated to the discipline and training necessary to reach relative excellence at wrestling hit a point where wrestling is no longer fun. The discipline and training seem less worth the effort anymore and they have had enough.

Some might think HEW is Had Enough Wife, but that is an all together different animal.

I'm talking about a scenario that hopefully won't happen, so arguing about it is pointless, hopefully. If Iowa needs to win the last 3 weights to win, the key weight is 197. Ludington is no Cassar, Barr will maul him. Iowa's only chance is to bump up Ferrari.

I am not saying who I think will win those matches, I am saying that would be Iowa's only winning strategy.

Iowa wrestling has always thrived when its wrestlers embrace the 'Iowa style'. Grinders who will wear a body cast if that's needed to compete ... 2021.

That is where Bob's influence has been a net negative. Starting with the AJ debacle 2 years ago, he has been flirting with kids who don't fit the culture.

Big bucks can buy a nice looking roster on paper, but it doesn't always translate to the mat. Brands needs to rein Bob in and get his team back.

Maybe this is the 1st step toward that end.

Iowa is screwed until Brands is gone, Bob or no Bob.

Imagine the last few years without the rent-A-wrestlers.

It's going to get a lot worse with the loss of their #4 ranked wrestler, and what is going on with Ayala? He just dropped to #11. If he doesn't get his **** back together Iowa will be lucky to finish 6th. Losing Bo was a punch in the gut. The teams behind Iowa are improving.

JTS is going to be hurt the worst out of all this. Who is going to pay him to hate on Iowa now? People may start a GoFundMe for Iowa.

What other D1 program?
He portaled to Wisconsin in 2024 but returned to Wartburg.

Massoma Endene committed to transfer to the University of Wisconsin wrestling program in the spring of 2024, with the news being publicly announced around May 21, 2024.
However, his stay in Madison was brief. After much deliberation, he had a change of heart and decided to return to Wartburg College in September 2024 for the 2024-2025 season. He then later transferred to the University of Iowa in April 2025.

Very fair point. Case in point: Curt Cignetti. IMO, the reason he's had success is he has his system, he knows exactly the type of guys he needs for it, and he finds them without regard to external 'rankings' and the like. You can't have a system where the players aren't a match for the coach. It's a sign of a bad GM, which I guess is what Bob is.

I'll add that it's easier to evaluate some of his pick ups than recruits in high school. Doesn't take away from your point but in this new world it's probably the smart way to go about this.
