The facts are available in many places, so I'm not going to go through all of them here. I'm simply going to say that, based on the tourney criteria, it's impossible for me to see how Iowa is anything but a #1 seed. The experts say Indiana is a lock as a #1 seed despite losing two of its last three games, including blowing a 24-point lead to Ohio State, a team Iowa demolished in record-setting fashion 24-hours later to claim the Hawkeyes's second straight Big Ten tournament title.
And for those who may be waffling between Iowa and anyone else as a #1 seed, you would do well to remember this: Iowa is the only team in the country with Caitlin Clark, the soon-to-be-named national player of the year.
We know, based on history, that committees spin the facts however they want to justify doing whatever they want to do. To believe that seeding is a purely objective act is simply naive.
And so, given how Iowa is generally treated, I won't be shocked if the Hawkeyes end up with a #2 seed, but I will be ticked. And no matter what seed they are given, I hope these Hawkeyes will eventually face an undefeated South Carolina in the Final Four. The good news is that no committee can do anything to stop Iowa once the games begin.
BTW: Iowa is ranked #2 behind only 32-0 South Carolina by the AP and comes in at #3 in the coaches' poll. That's what I'm talkin' about.
