Iowa was our main rival for many years but recently one could say Nebraska or Ohio State but with DT at Ok State and recent recruiting success at Va Tech, it may be one of those teams. I'm thinking Oklahoma State and that disgusting orange singlet will be our main challenge in the future. what say you?

I'd argue that our rival is history. These teams you mentioned are not a threat to challenge for the title. We're working on stringing together seasons that challenge Gable's Iowa and then Oklahoma State.

You don't believe that Ok State will have a shot at us in 2-3 years?

3 years maybe, for a singular year. Even then it will be difficult.
Mirasolas at the last 2 weights
Cunningham
Henckel
James
Duke
Blaze
Sidun
Others I am struggling to think of.

OkieSt has a ton of talent already in the lineup and more talent on the way, but PSU isn't fading. Even if Okie State's performance retards PSU's point accumulation a bit, say down in the 165 to 175 range, then Okie State needs to wrestle beyond current PSU standards to score enough to win.

With the transfer portal it's going to be difficult for other programs to build a deep roster equivalent to PSU's especially if Cael backfills holes with transfers (e.g. Rocco Welsh).

Whoa....I read that wrong the first time.
Yeah, sometimes I could swear I've never been educated. I'm gonna leave it.

DT has ventured into Utah, picked up a commit from Ladd Holman, 197/285. Willie has him at 43 on his '27 Big Board. Looks like good depth behind Merrill, White and Ross.

He's what I wrote on BSD a couple of weeks ago with a couple of edits post conferences:

Let's see them put some space between themselves and the other pretenders first. They'll be in a very tight race with tOSU for 2nd this year. In the near future, they have a logjam from 133 to 157 but some question marks after that. Just about every spot in their lineup is a step below PSU and looks to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

125 Lilledahl is better than anyone they have or coming in. Can Spratley make the finals this year? He's got one more year, LL has 2. After that we've got Sidun coming in. He's better than Cowboy commits Zinkin and Villasenor. There's always questions about 125s holding the weight, Zinkin may never get there again.

133/141 Blaze, Ono, Desmond v. Jax, Ramirez, Vega and the smaller Rainey. This is going to be the best of the head to heads going forward. I'm bullish on Blaze over Jax and confident Ono can be as dominant at folk as he is at free. Expect a lot of back and forth here particularly if Vega can make a good showing against Mendez.

149 Van Ness then questions v. Swiderski then the bigger Rainey. Nobody's beating SMFVN this year or next. After that our options are Blaze or Desmond growing. Sam Herring, Mangano, and Dalton Perry are possible option though not as highly touted.

157 Duke this year then Kasak v. Robideaux. We saw Duke handle Robideaux in free last summer and that PJ we saw this past weekend isn't losing to anybody. Can Kasak hold this weight for 2 more years?

165 Mitchell/Duke v. Dee Lockett. I like Dee but he's not beating either of these 2. Dee may turn out to be the best wrestler to never win an NCAA title but he's got some work to do to get there.

174 Levi/Henckel v. Facundo then questions. Facundo can't beat these guys, that's why he's in Stillwater. Redshirting Routledge looks to be the best option next, he and Lockett should man 165 and 174 but I can't say which order. Jaydin James is coming to PSU in the fall, he won Cadet Worlds last summer. He'll certainly redshirt but will be a title contender when he can find a spot in the lineup

184 Rocco v. Ryder is an easy call. Asher is in the wings after Rocco and DT is gonna be looking for an upgrade particular if Ryder's shoulder remains a problem. There's a phenom by the name of Michael White coming to Stillwater next fall but it's questionable if he can make 184. He just won Indiana States at 190 lbs.

The kid wanted to be a football player but due to a period of homelessness for him and his family he missed football and the wrestling coach pulled him out of study hall to join the wrestling team. He's green as green can be but sounds like an exceptional athlete. I don't expect he'll hold 184 for long, if at all.

197 Josh Barr, Connor Mirasola v. Cody Merrill. Best Cody can do is try to finish 2nd behind these guys but there's a lot of other guys he has to pass first. Other than White, DT has just picked up Ladd Holman '27, #43 on Willie's Big Board.

285 Cole Mirasola v. Doucett/Ross will be a good battle this year. Doucett has made a big jump since DT coached him up. Cole should outplace him this year. Dreshaun Ross comes in next year and should/will be a title contender. Cowboy fans are predicting a 1 year fill in from the portal to allow Ross a redshirt but no idea who that could be. Cole beat Ross 2 matches to none in the best of 3 Junior WTT over the summer. Right now, Elijah Brown has committed to Cael. He's going to be a long term project, currently a senior at Belle Vernon wrestling 215. Let's see how he does in the State Tournament.

tl;dr version. DT is building a great team and should easily be number 2. Beating number 1 is gonna be a challenge. The recruiting battles are going to be big but David has a lot more holes to fill right now. I'm high on a couple of sophomores, Sammy Sanchez, 120lbs, from Aaron Nagao's high school Esperanza, CA and Cam Howard,157, from KDs club in New York.

Not until David fills some wholes. Who other than Jax would be contending for a spot in PSUs lineup. Vega over Scooter this year but not next with Ono looking to get in the lineup. Cael's still a step ahead.

OSU is killing it with recruiting and will continue to fill holes over the next couple of years to complete the picture.

Next year's PSU team is likely as good or better than this year, but once Ono, Mitch, SVN all move on I think we lose 20-30 points even with a strong pipeline, while OSU gains the same

Post next year, I see Vega, Jax and Ross as 'potentially' finalist peers with whomever we roll out, but definitely in the conversation - might they start for PSU? Lots of other potential high AAs in Robideau, Both Raneys, Lockett, Zinkin....

3 finalist and 8ish overall AAs certainly brings them into the conversation and my money would have them a bit stronger than that 2 years from now.

With an Oly year in the mix and the flood of potential Oly redshirts hitting our squad, I would not be shocked at another "punt" year down the road, and a bit of a gift to OSU and/or VT.

God, I love it when the casuals show up at the end of the season and start new threads on stuff we recently discussed.

Here's 2 different threads that were active in the last 21 days on the exact same topic:

https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/it-seems-that-the-consensus-is-that-oklahoma-state-is-the-new-rival….8700056/

Sorry man, I can't resist:

Inferring that ‘banger is a casual is an odd take as well. That had to have been sarcasm
Maybe. But since Thread #1 was active and at the top from January 25 to February 24, and Thread #2 was active and at the top from February 24 to March 1, 5 weeks during the height of Big Ten dual season leading into B1G's, you'd assume a non-casual fan would've taken notice.

But then again we have 2 separate threads going right now at the top for "NCAA Brackets".

Sorry man, I can't resist:

I know, I know. I'm gonna take a Prozac and go watch Seyko.

2028 may be strange team-wise given potential Olympic reddhirts
We don't ever compete against VT or OKS. Aren't rivals someone you play against yearly vs who wins the championship. Theoretically we can win or loose the NCAA championship and never wrestle an okie or hokie how is that a rival. My opinion.

2027 worlds will be where we learn who may RS. If someone doesn't win a world medal now they gotta go through the whole process which to me says they gotta RS. If you medal you wrestle the college season and use that shape to help you make the Olympics
Excellent observation.

Yeah I tend to agree, however Oly shirts are not quite the same as Cael jokeying shirts to optimize the lineup in any given year.

We could see nearly a half dozen PSU starters take an Oly RSs to focus on freestyle and I don't see Cael stepping in to squash any Olympic dreams. Not that OSU and VT won't have their own candidates as well.

Maybe that's the year Tan Tom, or TnT do have a chance?!!!

Like I said above what happens in 2027 with determine who wrestles and who takes a RS. Duke is an interesting one I don't see him taking a RS 2 years in a row.

Did they change permissions on HR? Either that or I’ve been banned (for doing what? - I’ve been in zero confrontations there). I can see and edit old posts, but can’t reply.
