Is addiction a disease?

Your ability to avoid acquiring some kind of condition doesn't mean it's not a disease. You can avoid getting an STD by not having sex and not sharing needles, does that mean Gonorrhea and every other STD isn't a disease?

Suicide is a disease that has at least three distinctions or types. Type 1 suicide is 100% fatal. If you get the Type 1, it's over. Type 2 is sometimes called "attempted suicide". This type along with Type 3 or "thoughts of suicide", are never fatal. However, people who catch Type 2 or 3 are at an accelerated risk of contracting full blown Type 1 suicide in the future.

It's important that people realize and accept that addiction to any substance or activity is a disease. Otherwise, responsibility for the addiction would fall on the addicted person. That is not fair.

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because this thread gave me cancer anyway.

If you guys think someone having one sip of alcohol at a party and completely losing their **** and waking up from a 3 year blackout with their entire life destroyed sounds completely normal and like their brain is wired like yours then I don't know what to tell you. I went to AA for 6 months in college for a project and the stories those guys/gals told made me completely change my opinion of an addict. Its nuts. Those people literally have different wiring and I don't know how to explain it except feel bad for them because other people view them as "weak" or whatever.

I don't eat fast food, therefore I won't get diabetes or heart disease bc I decided not to eat it...therefore those aren't diseases. You partying and deciding to stop has nothing to do with if it's a disease. You were never addicted in the first place and never would be. I'm 32, I binge drank the entire way through college and pretty much every weekend in my 20's...I was never at risk. Some people who are alcoholics didn't get there bc they decided to party. That has nothing to do with anything.

Dude, you're 32 years old and presumably graduated from college. And you say something like this. You have no clue whether or not you are going to have diabetes or heart disease.

The number one addiction is sex and gluttony then alcohol and drugs, people is addicted to steroids and lifting weights and they look like freaks, I never have taken steroids even though it has been pushed on me. My body type on steroids would be abnormal, I would turn heads and garnish attention and would turn people's heads. It I don't want to do that ish.

Addiction is weakness. Same as fear. If you are a man then you are immune to all weakness and fear. Your only true purpose is to reproduce, fight, win, and provide strength to the weaker sex. In the absence of any of these things then addiction can set in and thus you have lost your way as a man. Probably because I am mating savagely with your woman.

All mating must be primal. You use it to communicate your great strength and stamina from which a woman might find comfort.

You can still beat it with some education. Don't give up.

Yes, I can beat ignorance with education - because I have the capability to learn.

But I'm quite sure there are some posters here who don't have that capacity. No amount of education will fix their ignorance.

True....that's when it's called stupidity.

Good thing you didn't take those steroids. Wouldn't want you turning heads and turning heads.

You are addicting to stalking me therefore you are failing in at least one key category of being a man. Please understand I am not gay and have no interest in what you choose to do or not do with your toasted anus. Your attention, while flattering, is ultimately useless and will not makeup for whatever your failings are. I suggest you grow a beard and lay in the sun everyday for at least 30 minutes.
