Down 21% after hours. Will rebound quickly because it is an analyst darling.
If the worst human qualities were a bonfire, FB is gasoline. The damage caused by social media is here to stay no matter what happens to the company.
Well I am finished with them. But I think they will survive.
Despite what many Wall Street "experts" have said about Facebook, I have never understood how a company that doesn't sell a product or service, just simply gets people to sign up, blasts ads at them, and then sells their private information is a successful business model. IMO it's not a business it's a scheme and will eventually just go up in smoke.
I think FB is actually the most responsible of the tech companies (not a high bar). Perhaps I run with a better class of losers (RIP Ray Price), but everything on my timeline is pictures of my friends’ children and the occasional humblebrag. Then again, I set to ignore most of the knuckleheads.
That said - the excited thing about FB was seeing old friends as they signed up. That novelty is over.

Here is the deal with Facebook. No one is signing up for it, you're either on it or you aren't at this point and young people don't like it. It won't go away though there are a ton of people who are addicted to it. Kind of like heroin, there won't be many new addicts, but the ones that are already addicted are still going to be around. As a company they also own Instagram, which is huge with the younger set and it just happens to be their drug of choice, so the company will live on.
Anything that conveniently allows people to communicate will be popular. I’m not on fb but I can see why it’s attractive to many.

People seem addicted to it. I don’t use it. It’s just never interested me.
Social media gives a lot of people the impression their opinion matters and that’s the problem. Too many dummies with online megaphones.
It has to be addictive to some, there is no other explanation. I have had guests visit and the minute they arrive ask for my wifi password so they can get on facebook. And they stay on it until they drive away. That is not just rude it has to be mental.
Facebook, Twitter, instagram, Snapchat all need to go away. Too many people addicted to them. Driving while on the phone, people don’t sit and talk to each other any more
It's the dopamine hit people get from other people liking/commenting on their posts and feeding their narcissism. That's pretty much it. Same with Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat....It's real simple. Instead of a box that rewards you whenever your Mario beats Donkey Kong, you get a box that rewards you whenever you "friends" click Like.
I'm not too proud to say that I fell for it for a couple of years -thinking I was doing a good thing by keeping up with what my old friends and family were doing. Then I realized that I'd rather have something to talk about when I met up with those people. I got super busy at work and just stopped looking at it and I honestly don't have much urge to get back on it. Now my only online addiction is this board. (Click LIKE)
I've heard that the youts aren't signing up for it. Do we have recent numbers? EIther way, if you're 25 to 60, then 90% of your friends and family are on it.

All social media is needed and has its own purpose. Instagram is for worshipping celebrities. Twitter is for passive aggressive bitching. Facebook is for putting your conspiracy theories and associated mental illness on display. Best of all, Snapchat is for "accidentally" floating out dick pics.
I really don't see the need for Twitter or Instagram, Facebook does kind of do both, fairly well. At least as far as I'm concerned. I get enough food pics and random thoughts from Facebook, don't need other social media for that. Snapchat.. guilty of using it.. but I have 30 friends on there, and that's it. It's a nice way of seeing what everyone is up to.
I got snagged by Facebook as we were the 2nd year of college freshman when it released, but stayed away from all other social media. It's poison. It's a time waster. It's not good for you.

FB is old news to the youngsters. Too many other social media outlets for stodgy old FB. I used to get on there about once a week and finally realized what a complete time-suck it was and basically only go to FB about once every 8-10 weeks. The social media generation, imo, has a huge problem with face to face communication skills and narcissism. SM just feeds into both of those problems, making them worse. Imagine back in high school if you were to call up all of your friends and describe to them in detail what you happened to be eating at a restaurant at that moment. How many friends would you have afterwards? Yet, with SM, it's a perfectly acceptable action. Same with your political or personal opinions. SM just feeds individuals' self-centeredness and that's not a good thing, imo.
Why don't you just admit the reason you don't use it is because nobody friended you?

If you admit that the reason you use it is because you want to feel important in a world that doesn't value you.

5. I have seen zero pictures of grandkids in weeks on CI.

I like that I can semi- keep up with family and friends from where I grew up on Facebook, but, I agree with you otherwise. Instagram especially is as real as a Harry Potter book.
