Is Gwath starting material?

Im thinking he is not ideal to beat, bang, and rebound in the SEC. 7 footer at 205lbs. He's an intriguing prospect for sure though. He's being reported as down to us and the Jayhawks.

Gwath reminds me a bit of Big Z. I love him as a developmental feast or famine type guy.

It all depends on Pope's assessment of Garrison for next year to me. If Pope thinks Garrison is his starter, I think Gwath makes a ton of sense as a backup that pairs well with Moreno. If Pope doesn't think Garrison can start, I think we need someone who can and I don't believe Gwath is that guy -- at least not every night, not now.

He’s the one I most want down low. DPOY as a FR. That rarely happens.
And we can make him stronger, that’s probably the easiest change to make to a player. Probably get him up to 220-225 by Oct.
You don’t have to be a “banger” to be effective on the inside. Condon 230, Handlogten 235, Haugh 210, Milicic 225, Newell 220,

While he has some big Z offensive skills, the big reason to want him isn’t offense, it is his defense! Big Z blocks some shots, but otherwise is a bad defender. This kid was DPOY as a FR, which is rare.

Like his game. Good shooter. Runs like a gazelle and gets off his feet quick around to rim. Elite shot blocker. Issue is front court would really lack scoring across the board unless we still planned on bringing in a big time 4 or 5

Also the thing with him he uses either hand to the basket has jump hooks, good foot work can take you off the dribble. He actually JUMPS and plays well above the rim to finish, rebound and block shots

Really would like to land this kid. Have to have somebody to block shots. Thought that was Garrison, but apparently not

Sounds like something we use to buy in our younger days, lol. Seriously though, the kid looks like a heck of an athlete and a basketball player, not 1 of the 2. And yes, with another 15 pounds he'll be more effective. I'd love to land that kid.
3 years of eligibility left. He’s a take and hope you get multiple years out of him.

If Pope starts Garrison I sure hope he starts him at the four spot. His numbers are close to Carr’s in the important areas other than free throw shooting, and if he’s a little clumsier he’s also a little bigger and stronger with more hops. That trade-off could just about balance out with all of offense and defense considered, especially assuming Garrison is the right age to make a decent jump between this season and next season.

If Pope starts Garrison at the five spot next season, I have a very hard time seeing how we’re going to repeat what we just did against top 15 opponents this year. He has the height but not much of anything else a big man needs to anchor zoom action, not at the level he’d need it at. If it comes to that I’ll trust Pope and hope for the best but I hope it doesn’t come to that.

100% agree.

If Garrison has a future here, it’s likely as the 4 and not the 5. But we need him to really work on his ball handling with the 3-5 power dribbles with either hand, a couple post moves, and fine tune his shooting. Lesser-Terrance Jones type game

There is zero chance Brandon Garrison will play anything more than spot minutes as a 4 in college, imo. I don't even understand how that is a thought.
