Is Ignatius a 6a Dark Horse?

Been looking at the 6a teams and thought about Ignatius being able to make a run this year. Last year they made a deep prep bowl run and were a crazy play away from beating a dangerous Simeon team. I believe they will go 7-2, losing to Loyola and Mount Carmel. If they beat Fenwick, they can be a dangerous team this year. They have a lot of returning starters this year and a few new starters who could really make an impact this year. Look out for the pack this year.

No...I’m hearing they can’t field a FR/Soph team so future is in doubt

You realize they were down 35-0 at halftime of their first round loss in 6A last year? And we are better than last year and still in 6A....

But playing in the CL Red, they'll go 6-3 and win their division and return to the state playoffs.

Just noticed Niles Notre Dame looks to have a multiplier waiver this year. Their 2018 FB enrollment is listed at 1,540. They could be a 6A dark horse as well. They return the ESCC Player of the Year in RB Ty Gavin. Lost in OT to Minooka in the 1st round of the 8A playoffs last year.

I don’t think they can make
Let me connect the dots...
Ignatius has a multiplied enrollment of 1454.
They are in a division with 4 other schools with average enrollment of 359.
I could be wrong but I think that is their actual enrollment. They haven’t won a playoff game in a long time and I don’t believe they are subject to the multiplier.

This part - "You realize they were down 35-0 at halftime of their first round loss in 6A last year? And we are better than last year and still in 6A...." And who is "we"?

Mr. Trojan Fox is assuming you all know that We is CG. Even a CG homer like myself wouldn't be so presumptuous.

Purpose of this post?

Purpose of this post?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean, but I didn't think St Iggy was good last year, nor should they be considered a "Dark Horse" in 6A this year. I'm glad they made the playoffs for the first time in their history, it's a great story.

Fun fact,
Last year the only team they beat that finished with a winning record (in IL) was St Larry in regular season.. Prep Bowl is now nothing more than post season scrimmages,.... Teams actually ask NOT to participate...

You want a dark horse, pick a team like Prairie Ridge since no one knows what they have. They could be good, yet should be down. Or Crystal Lake South, possibly biggest line in 6A, was 3-6 last year, could/should make playoffs and case teams trouble.

And yes, both are FVC teams

Would it be an upset if PR beats CG this year?

Yes, with Seniors PR lost and their current seniors not being very strong this year, I'd expect Cary to beat them.

I'm not saying PR won't be good, they just won't be as good as Cary, Jacobs, and maybe Huntley. They have a strong Jr class and some good soph's that should put them back at the top of the Fox next year.

Ok. I’m getting one conservative Forcast and one optimistic forecast.

Usually when this happens at work I split the difference and pick the middle case scenario!!

You have an interesting definition of a "Dark Horse." Merriam Webster says:

1a : a usually little known contender (such as a racehorse) that makes an unexpectedly good showing
b : an entrant in a contest that is judged unlikely to succeed

I hardly think a defending state champion, Prairie Ridge, who went 14-0 would meet the definition of a dark horse. CLS perhaps.

Some schools may not want to participate in the Prep Bowl Playoffs.

Ignatius has made the state playoffs for the last 3 years but lost the first game each year. In 2017 they chose to play in Prep Bowl Playoffs. Ignatius won 3 games and lost 1. In 2016 they played in 1 Prep Bowl playoff game and in 2015 they played in 2 Prep Bowl playoff games. 7 Prep Bowl games and 3 State Playoff games over the last three years has given many players an extra season of play. And more film for college coaches to view.

I thought all private schools with open boarders are subject to the multiplier?

There are multiplier waivers for multi class sports if a certain level of success is not met. I believe in football the multiplier is waived if you don’t win a playoff game for 4 seasons. I could be wrong (anyone with knowledge of this would be appreciated). A few schools that come to mind this season are AC, DLS, SICP, DePaul Prep, St. Pat’s & Leo

All the non-boundaried schools and their corresponding multiplier status are linked here: https://www.ihsa.org/Schools/EnrollmentsClassifications/MultiplierWaivers.aspx

Looking at the list, any school in the FB (football) column in light green or dark green is not multiplied this year.

St Iggy would need to make an "unexpectedly good showing", they haven't shown any reason to think they would or could. How about this, win A playoff game, then ask about their "Dark Horse" status.

Why PR's status a a possible "Dark Horse", everyone who's seen them play know they are due a major drop off due to losing Superman and his supporting cast. They have a JR qb and Jr halfback replacing Evans and Gilbranson, their best lineman is no longer Jenkin, but another junior. They will have more underclassmen starting than seniors...I'd say they fit the unlikely to succeed., but could still surprise....hence...possible dark horse.

making the state playoffs 3 years in a row is quite an accomplishment. But, good programs don't just have goals just to make it.

And, please, don't tell me the Prep Bowl playoffs are anything other than post season exhibitions. I know Providence, Rice, Montini all have declined participation and I've seen CCL teams with 2-3 wins play in the "prep playoffs". It's good to get the extra practice in, but leave it at that.
For proof, I'll bet you Rice goes farther in the state playoffs this year in 8A after not playing in prep bowl last year than iggy does this year with their prep bowl experience.

Again: you make that one tackle and we're not having this discussion.

sick burn bro... but we did come closer to beating them over the past two years than NAZ, Montini, DeKalb, and all others...

But We did help get st iggy get all that prep bowl experience last year.

Point of clarification. Iggy defeated a Class 2A, 5-4 Aurora Christian squad. The AC frosh/soph squad blew out Iggy in both 2016 and 2017, so not confident the incoming Wolfpack varsity squad will be on par with previous years.

So....St Iggy still a dark horse?

My CLS pick not looking too bad....and if PR beats world champion Phillips...

That's not his point. You're crowning them as if their round 1 victory signifies more than a SNAFU in the IHSA playoff system.

so me taking a darkhorse team in what, week 2, that was 3-6 last year and now made the made the playoffs this year ......and actually won a game (yes, CPS sucks).....and could win a game this week....isn't a better DARKHORSE pick this year than st IGGY....?

OK

OK

CLS came into the playoffs as a 5-4 team and drew 9-0 Kenwood from the CPL. Ignatius came in at 6-3 and drew 7-2 Notre Dame from the ESCC. You gotta admit, that's a huge break for CLS. Another huge break is beating Kenwood like a drum on the road last weekend, and hosting Notre Dame In Crystal Lake this weekend. Just more evidence that the system is screwed up.

Then you come on here claiming that your predicted darkhorse team is looking pretty good, and asking how Iggy is doing. Sorry if I am not impressed with your prediction based on South's round one win. Beat ND this weekend, and then I would agree that you have good reason to crow about your darkhorse team.

Iggy has definitely turned things around the last few years. A young head coach and a young coaching staff where the kids can look up to. He also won coach of the year last season. That defense has been really good. I looked up their scores. Besides that mount Carmel game. They’ve had 5 shut outs. Had great games against Loyola and ND. Also held the hot offense of Hope academy it looks like to 14.

Agree that St Iggy is a program on the rise as it was in the baseball playoffs last year, taking 2nd place. Will take some time to get the football program where it would be very competitive with other CCL school. Go Iggy!
