Is it assumed Alvaro returns?

I'm truly on the fence about wanting Alvaro back or not.

As we well know, when he scored double-digits in games, Iowa was 15-1. And below .500 when he didn't.

So that's empirical evidence that when he does play well, he's a great benefit to his team. And when he doesn't, he was more often than not a net negative, on both sides of the ball.

If he can work on being more consistent in being positively productive, he could be a very valuable returning piece.

He'll see limited minutes again next season if he remains as inconsistent as this past season.
FWIW, I think his inconsistencies were primarily matchup related. The bigger the opponent the worse he performed. (Excepting Florida, who had the personnel, but then I think they didn't effectively use their size advantage v. Iowa.)

He is NOT a banger and I don't think he can be made into one next year.

I think we would all like to see Alvaro be a poor man's version of Momcilovic, the great Iowa State sharpshooter. I just don't think he's got those skills, or those skills consistently.

Yet there's no disputing he's got a nice looking shot from beyond the arc.

His shot is flat.

I was thinking it’s crazy the swings (pun intended) Al had in the Florida game. I think the officials got it right with the double technical and Al wasn’t trying to punch anybody obviously but even if he just mistakingly made contact or the guy moved, he could have made contact and got thrown out. Heck I was scared the refs were going to throw him out anyways because Florida was throwing a fit. Sure glad they did the right thing!
I was a dumba$$ thing to do by both players. I saw a nearly identical play in the Tenn/Mich game.

You don't get a special prize for ending up with the ball in your hands after the whistle blows. It's just a dumb jock dick measuring contest.

Wasn't there a play earlier in the season when Alvaro kind of did something similar -- refusing to let go of the ball well after the whistle had blown? I can appreciate the tenacity, but not when you end up at risk of getting T'd up or ejected.
