Is It Bad Coaching Or Something Else?

Really think about last year they sucked. They lost 90 percent of their scoring on a team that sucked. Guess what they are worse why are people surprised?

Mostly surprised by the lack of effort. I’ve never seen anything like it by a collective group of players. These guys simply don’t care.

They gave little effort last year too. The players are the common denominator not the coach.

Now I am I concerned hell yes but these players suck.

I had some doubts before, but I believe what you say here is true now. Yes CKP is in over his head but much blame belongs on these players too.

This play encapsulates UofL basketball right now: no bb IQ, no heart, no hustle, no pride.

Take a deep look at the reaction by the coaching staff in this same clip. I agree about the talent and low BB IQ and effort of the team, but some of this is coaching. It’s just a bad combination. Little talent and effort with a first time head coach learning on the fly.

I question what is going on in practice, film study, strength and conditioning, game prep, individual instruction, etc… I heard Maybin say it on his show this morning. These dudes are sandbagging. KP can and needs to get more out of these guys.

KP could get away with what he’s running with more talent, more aggressive players, higher BB IQ players, etc… This group he has to be different with. Unfortunately, he’s learning this on the fly.

No way this team should be 0-7 and losing in this fashion.

No I agree that it's a combination of both coaching and the players. At first I put all the blame on CKP and staff but I see it is also a lot on the players too.

Just a very poorly constructed roster. Someone else said this in one of the threads that a lot of the players just aren't equipped to doing what they are being asked to do. That's why a handful of players should only come back next year and we absolutely have to hit big in the portal.

Withers can't jump. He barely leaves the floor and that's why he didn't get the rebound.

I’ve seen previous head coaches in this program teach and coach average talent how to play the game, how to defend, hustle, understand court awareness, and instill confidence. I ain’t seeing anything close to that so far. This is a direct reflection on the athletic director. There should have been more vetting. I hope I’m wrong and the writing on the wall is wrong.

I've heard from ears close to the program for at least the past 2 seasons, this bunch of fellas are a bad group. No sugar coating it anymore, as it seems guys are living high off the hog.
Question- Do we know whether or not any of these returning veterans from the Mack regime are receiving NIL money?

If so, I think we have our answers to at least a decent percentage of the problem.

Play the guys that want to win.

This is an excellent point. The coaching staff looks like nothing just happened. Also, I’ve noticed the assistants do little if any coaching during the games. I haven’t seen an assistant coaching staff this quite since Petrino 2.0. Makes you wonder how much KP welcomes input from his assistants.

You'd think Danny Manning with HC experience could offer at least decent input.
This team is beyond the bad news bears 🙄

Exactly. This is what concerns me from a coaching perspective. I try to watch the coaches as much as possible to see what type of coaching and instruction is being provided during games. You rarely see the coaches talking (coaching), interacting, providing instruction down the bench during games. Is Milt Wagner charting during games?

Grant it. I’m not at the games (don’t even live in Louisville anymore) so I do not see all the interactions, but this clip is troubling to me. All the coaches seem or appear to have the same personality. Who is the “bad cop” as cheesy and goofy as that sounds? Who is getting into these guys? What is going on away from games?

For the life of me, I don't understand why we're not getting the ball into the post. We have guys who can play in the post but all I see is Ellis running off ball screens 35 feet from the basket. If we get the ball to one of our big men in the post, we will score most of the time.

They do feed the post the problem is they are pushed out then are doubled teamed. Spacing is bad and they don’t pass real well out of those double teams

Guys just park their behinds on that arc, much like the past few years and watch.
It didn't work before and it's not working now. I'm befuddled that nobody tries to cut or move or screen ...or am I?

Withers and BHH don't want the contact, they want to face up and drift to the perimeter. They can both drive it a little but that doesn't really work out too often. No desire to post. Very little attacking the offensive glass.

Syd in theory wants the contact when he wants to play. It just doesn't seem like he wants to play. That or he is just a real bad fit in whatever this offense is. Or both.
