Yesterday I was in shock, my whole family was in shock. I don’t approve of what he did. What he did was an act of terrorism. The United States is my home and it has always taken care of me and my family. wish I knew what he was doing. I would have arrested him myself.

Maybe...but he's one voice and a family member at that...don't typically see the immediate family saying that their son was on the righteous path by killing innocent people.
The president said it was a "hate crime". He killed 49 people and wounded 53 more. Pretty obvious not a crime of endearment. Without reason he murdered 49 people. Murder has been a "no no" on the books of the free world for long time. Murder is not enough of a charge? Has to be charged with "hate". In normal circumstances , could be act of terror. Does the element of hate have to be introduced? Does hate have to be proven to send him to hell as a guilty man?
I'm with you, murder is murder. I have always hated the whole idea of a "hate crime" -- hate is thought, and to call any crime a "hate" crime is to criminalize thought, and the next step after making it a crime to hate is to send people to re-education camps to get their minds right. Think the gulag, or Cambodia under Pol Pot.
I am not familiar with eras of peaceful or violent history of Islam/Arabia. I admit I haven't taken time to learn Islamic or Arabic history. If there are eras of peace associated with the religion I'd like for Islamic scholars to discuss them more in mainstream media to socialize the idea more and maybe reveal the factors that were present then to possibly ignite it happening now. This would be a nice CNN Parts Unknown topic involving food.
