Is it unfair to use the 1994 team as a measure...

..against current teams to determine if they are going to be elite enough to win a National Championship? The 1994 team was explosive and most games were over by the end of the first quarter. I kind of use the first few games to see how the years team will be, I know the game has changed over the past 30 years but I think our running game should be more dominant. If this team was going to compete for a playoff spot, we should have dominated WVU more out of the gate. Delaware is Delaware and can't really use that performance as an indicator but they did what they should have did to Delaware with the athletes we have. I was excited for the season with how our running game performed last year. I do think that the new QB unknowns have been answered and Allar can lead them to the playoffs. Running game will hopefully come around and become more dominant as well. Defense, not so sure about yet. I guess they will get a good test this week on the road in Illinois. Does anyone know where we can rewatch the games?

I too think the running game is sluggish but thinking they are emphasizing passing in these early games, building up Allar and the new receivers. We know what the running backs are.

the season is a grind so not over relying on the ground game early helps later.

I was expecting more explosive plays vs. Delaware. So far, I don't see this team being on the same level as 94 but it's still early.

Delaware tackling was legit. Better than some bigten teams.

I use last year's playoff teams as the measuring stick. I think we haven't showed enough at this point, but have enough talent for strong improvement.

The offense has improved in every area that most fans desired last years team to improve on. QB who can make all the throws. Accurate QB. RBs being patient and getting positive yardage. Ability to sustain drives and eat clock. Going with the hot hand and not forcing anything. Explosive plays in the passing game.

The one area the offense has "taken a step back" per se is explosive runs. And that is through 2 weeks vs 2 defenses that played 3 high safeties aka you need a severe breakdown and multiple missed tackles to break off a 50 yard TD.

I think we are OK.

And if you look at it from an opponent's viewpoint, WVU clogged up the box the best they could to stop the run and try to bring pressure on Allar. I'd imagine that teams will lean toward stopping the run first because they know how good Allen & Singleton are and hoping that Allar doesn't beat them. If Allar continues his efficient ways that he's shown in the first 2 games, teams are going to be at a loss as to what to key on.
