Honestly, I'm not sure they are. To me, it seems mostly a matter of just not having any soft areas, from coach onward. I'm try to remember a team so well-balanced in ability, not anchored by any star power, but am having trouble recalling one other than maybe the rockford team that beat the brook in 92 i think. Maybe one of those prosepect teams that practiced 12 times a week, too.

I just think that merge happened in part of the state where the talent pool and ability to have nice things is so deep that we may be looking at the next era in IL.

For some reason, when I think of this, I wonder what happened to lockport.

Generally the way to beat LWE, at least for us, was through the air and a tough D (no weinergate). MS kept it close through the air. Hopefully week 9 is cancelled in favor of starting the playoffs a week early so we don't get a chance to test the hypothesis though.

Belvidere beat Bolingbrook in 93 in 5A, then beat Morris in 94 in 4A.

I remember watching Prospect steamroll a solid Belvidere team in the semi's in 05. Quick at the skills, solid size on the lines. I remember Bruce Bazali (OC on those Propsect teams) saying they didn't have the linemen from about 07 onwards.

Although MS did keep it close through the air, it took multiple Houdini-like escapes by the QB and razor-thin reception margins near the boundary with great catches to accomplish that. Few offenses are able to replicate that kind of passing attack MS can bring to the table. Also, LWE has been able to absolutely stone the running attacks of 3 excellent rushing teams in: MS, LWC and HF.

I agree. That's why week 9 should be cancelled. I will say this is our most diverse offense since and maybe including 2009. But I don't want to put the cart before the horse. We have Thornton this week who is fast and athletic--like H-F. And we all know how that turned out. It was almost like they were Lockport 2009 using one guy to demolish us. Incidentally that's when @JCHILLTOPPERS came to the Brook and saw the debacle.

No team is unbeatable. For LWE the key has always been the defensive backfield. When they have been very good they have gone deep in the playoffs. If not, they're done early. Few teams have ever run on them effectively so the key is the pass

I think JCHill has returned with the reverse Vulcan mind meld.

No one is unbeatable, just as MS proved last year. Anything can happen when field conditions change and that first 20 degree day blows in.

Monster program got even more monster depth with LWN, but 48 minutes is a long time on a football field.

They sure looked good shutting down HF. I think we have improved up front, but the Beast D line this year is very tough.

I hope we get the chance to dance again!

Let's assume that the merger sent all of LWN to LWE. One half of LWE was sent to LWC. So 66% of what is LWE now, used to be LWN. Coach Zvonar should be coach of the year taking 66% of a 6A program and in one year selling a new system and program to these kids. Now the value of Mokena to LWC is shown by results there as well! BWM?

My take on 8a:

If every team plays to its best potential, Loyola wins
If no team plays to its potential, maine south wins
If teams play how they’ve been paying in the reg season, Lincoln way east wins

Yes, an excellent coaching job by one of the best coaching staffs in Illinois taking a talented bunch of kids and melding them into one of the top teams in the state.
For some reason you’re still amazed with this concept that kids from a 6A program can keep up with 8A schedule.

Against MS it was 4TD vs 4TD with MS missing a extra point and missed 2pt conversion. Unbeatable? No way. I think LWE was the better looking team in Park Ridge, but of their 4 TDs I believe 2 if them were bombs.
LWE has one of the best front fours I have watched in person, but if you really break it down, even though LWE was better, the Hawks are one play away from winning.
LWE Favorites? Yes
Unbeatable? No

i've seen a few unbeatable HS teams. I really mean that, too. I should say, by other teams in the same state. I'll say this, they are a legit elite level - team.

that's almost my point in a weird way though. I just dont think they are anything less than "better than avg" at any position, including depth. I think they have an excellent coach, and also have the skills to make teams one dimensional. Whether they win by main southing teams or on last second fgs is of little concern to me. What I mean is, how is this team exploitable...I can say, if this bomb or that bomb did not happen until the cows come home, but they did happen...

As for being unbeatable, when we say no team is unbeatable, are we being realistic, or are we saying, yeah, well i suppose they might turn the ball over 5 times....I think when projecting games, you have to use the most likely of situations for a baseline, not the penumbras.

The 2009 MS team never lost a game in high school. Will this ever happen again in 8A?

Has to be the best overall HS team I’ve seen since I lived in IL. Not only did it feature many kids from the Street of Champions, It did have what I consider to be the best football player Swagger High has had in the last several decades in Matt Perez, an SoC resident as well.

The game against Hollywood that year should have been for the Championship as the contest in Champaign was embarrassing.

Its really our fault for falling apart in the 2nd half of Rd 2. Not sure what happened, but it did and I apologize.
