There's no way of knowing yet. We didn't win national championships in 2018, 2019, 2021, or 2023, yet none of those seasons marked the end of a dynasty. It's also worth noting the national title teams of 2017 and 2022 didn't go undefeated, so let's wait to see how this one finishes.

What is obvious is that something is going on with this team right now that is causing them to lose to teams they would have beaten a month ago. They are probably not the best team in the country, but they are still good enough to win it all - although not the way they have played recently.

You, my friend, you are very incorrect! Did you see that crowd Sunday? We finally have a sport that we can succeed in!!
Unfortunately, it is a sport that loses money and really doesn't matter to the vast majority of sports fans. WBB is similar to Clemson being a national power in soccer back in the '80s. The school and the team's fans were happy but no one else really cared.

Guys, step back from the ledge. They've lost 2 whole games. Sometimes losing is necessary to learn and get better.

I know, I know about the streak...... start another one. And while I'm not tuning in now, I will tune in come tournament time.

As I've posted before (and nobody has answered the question) why bother to sponsor sports which lose money? Just drop all sports not named football and move on.

Those of you who follow postings I've made over the years know I'm being sarcastic. But seriously, why do colleges and universities sponsor sports which lose money? There is some benefit. I think many go back to the collegiate ideals of teamwork, character building, etc. I think that those ideals ring true in reverse proprtion to how much the school charges for admission to watch the contests.

Why do k-12 schools educate those who have low IQs? Those students DESERVE to be educated. Women DESERVE to be included in sports programs. They make up at least 50% of the college students at USC.

Are you suggesting we DOSE (Department of Sports Efficiency) the athletic department? 🤷‍♂️

You guys talk like this team is supposed to win it all every year and they still might, but the facts are is that their best player is a freshman and they play very sloppy at times. UCONN has a veteran backcourt in Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers who are finally healthy. Let's not forget, before South Carolina hit it's stride, UCONN dominated. It's not like they don't have All-Americans up and down their roster and a coach that hasn't won a Natiional Championship. South Carolina has a very good team, but they are going to be hard pressed to win it all this year, if they play like that. We just don't have a dominant big, like we've had in the past, like Cardoso, Wilson, Boston. And Fulwiley, although tremendous and explosive in spots is also a turnover machine and a person who takes poor shots. I hope they get it together, but we'll see. Go Cocks!

I think you made my point for me.The days of just women’s college basketball consisting of 1-3 dominate programs.5 or so solid teams and everybody else are over.Talent is scattered all over the country now.Carolina still has a really good team but so does about 10 others just as good.

It is kind of like Clemson being in the elite in football. For a few years…they were one of the few…and riding high. Now, others are competing with them. They will continue to be successful , but will have much competition. I guess NIL and the transfer portal is affecting all sports…men and women’s.

We're missing a dominant big. We need a Cardoso/Boston/Wilson player....... That's been the engine that's made this train run the last 10yrs.

Was South Carolina women's basketball even a dynasty to start with?

It's an SEC dynasty for sure...8 of the last 10 SEC tournament championships, 8 of the last 11 regular season SEC championships. A 57 game SEC winning streak. That's domination.

Six Final Four appearances since 2015, three national championships. In that same time period, UConn has two championships, with Notre Dame, Stanford, Baylor, and LSU all winning one. USC is the best of the bunch, but does that make it a dynasty?

In 2023, the year before Caitlin Clark and her media hype train rolled through, 9.9 million watched the college WBB championship game. In 2022, the number was 4.8 million. I would expect this year's number to be around 5-6 million. Regular season games, a better barometer of the popularity of a sport, have an average audience of around 400,000 viewers.

The NBA is hemorrhaging viewers and fans. 11 million is a big number for them.

The Kentucky Derby drew 16 million viewers but I wouldn't say horse racing is a sport the public cares much about.

Pretty much ALL college sports lose money at most schools, even football.

This is the closest I've seen to an answer. But what about non-revenue men's sports?

Keep in mind that I am an advocate for having a full varsity program of sports. If possible, I'd like to see USC add a gymnastics program and men's volleyball.

There's goodwill in spnsoring a full program of sports for men and women, Title IX notwithstanding. But what talking points can be used when discussing this with people form whom only football matters. How many of them would be happy if USC dropped all sports except football?

its all about recruiting....its dipped slightly the last few years and needs to get back to getting top 5 players.....Makeer and Chavez this year would help
We have 9 McDonald's All-Americans, not including Watkins. 3 were top 5 players in their classes. (And we are not getting Chavez.)

I'm being sarcastic, mostly directed at people who think football is the only sport which matters.
You like what you like. I have no problem with that. Other people like what they like. Apparently that's a big problem for you and some others on here.

The problem is when posters state that "football is all that matters."

If they state something like "I want all varsity sports to perform well, but all I'm personally interested in following is football," that is fine.

We all have our favourite sports. We agree that this is fine. The difference is don't diss the sports that don't interest you. See my post re: the equestrian team. Wish them (i.e., the sports you don't follow) well and move on.

That shouldn't be a "problem" for you. Others can and do think differently. Again, you seem to have problems with other people's opinions. Did you get a "does not play well with others" on your 1st grade report card? 🙂

I have no problem with people liking only football; that is the "can and do think differently", to which you refer. I have a problem when they openly diss everything not football.

There ain't no dynasty - we are about at the former Stanford level. "Dynasty' would be reaching the previous levels of Tennessee or UConn. Dynasty was media talk formulated because there came a lull in actual dynasties.

The answer? It’s not a dynasty. We were the best of several very good teams over the last few years, but any of those teams could win a national title. This year, we are not the best of those teams, but we still could win a national title.

This is not a knock on our team. Being one of the very good teams that wins national titles is absolutely fantastic. But there was a period when absolutely no one was going to beat UConn. During that period, it was a true dynasty.
