Is Oweh’s return less likely ?

Very well stated, and something that I’ve been saying for weeks. “Going to get feedback” line is garbage because it’s well known what needs to be worked. I’m pretty sure it’s no different than what Pope told him in their end of season meeting.

I still think he returns, but he’s definitely looking for something that makes his ears perk up.
No doubt. It's EVERY players dream to make it into the NBA.

But, I don't see ANY NBA GM seeing enough in Oweh "that makes his ears perk up". Just too many flaws in his game right now. But another year at UK as option #1, with MUCH better players around him, and he could become an ALL-American if he can improve his 3 pt shot and finish in traffic better. The G-League would NOT help his exposure at all.

So Owehs brother is just giving him money?
Now wny would his brother have to give him money. Do you think he spent his 1 mil from last year already, free room and board by UK so i think he did alright.

I really like Owehs game and certainly hope he is back next year. That being said his game doesn’t translate to the next level at this stage and honestly may never. Hes not a great outside shooter and has a very slow release on his shot compared to others at his position. Not sure his shooting will improve enough to ever make that leap but greater strides have been made.

I don't think he's going, but the $3.5 million is completely unsubstantiated.

There’s no chance he goes and I usually don’t project using absolutes. He’s probably going to make at least 3.5 million next season at UK. He can’t do that at the NBA level. He doesn’t shoot, finish, or dribble well enough for a draft pick paying as much as he’ll make here.

I have met with Oweh several times. He’s a great guy, one of the nicest and humble guys I’ve ever met at UK. Doesn’t take himself all that serious and absolutely loves UK. He always dreamed of playing for a program like this. Oweh wants to come back to UK and the money points to UK. I would be totally shocked if he stayed in the draft at this point.

Some are not used to this situation from growing up in the Calipari era. It’s gonna take those a while. Others are probably just paranoid from the 15 Calipari years. Others, well, trolling.
While I also think he returns, his character or loving his UK experience has little nothing to do with going pro or not.

It is more likely about if he can impress enough to get a guaranteed contract or not.

I’m seeing he’s now projected In the second round. Whatever happens, I think Pope is now preparing for him to possibly stay in the draft

Now that I have seen some of the other threads the OP has started, the picture has become pretty clear. I get it now.

"He Mr. Omaha, you just won the $70,000,000.00 powerball, how do you feel? "

Omaha: "sick to my stomach, this is way too much money and now I have to pay more taxes, hire an accountant and buy new things… this sucks"

I'll never understand why people post things like this then not provide a screenshot or link to what they're talking about
There was an article saying he was projected 2nd round by some source. I didn’t pay too close attention to it. And I’m think he may still be back. But if not, good for him for making the best decision for himself and following his dream. But obviously Pope would have a contingency plan

usually when someone is in real need of money its the family in need of money and if the family was desperate the brother would provide. But its all moot because Oweh will make more at UK than he'd make as a late second rounder/undrafted player.
How you know OO is in need of money?

Only first rounders have a guaranteed contract and the last pick of the first round made 2.07 million last year. That is significantly less than what he would make here. So unless he is at least guaranteed by a team to be a top 20 pick I don't see him going. With that said I think his outside shot needs work as does his finishing around the rim before any team would make that promise to him.

Oweh's brother is in the NFL. Oweh is not stressed for cash. His family has been set for a while. He may just want to start his professional career and be done with college, especially since it seems like he's a very mature guy. Many guys have jumped to the pros early just to begin their careers...and there's nothing wrong with that. It's not all about NIL for every single player.
That’s really presumptuous to think just because his brother is in the nfl that Otega is supported by him. I certainly don’t foot the bill for my siblings’ existences.

I think when we see you think, it's about a coin flip as to whether you have it correct or not... not very good results.

I think the message you quoted actually agrees with you...

it's saying that players who are more desperate for money are often trying to take care of family (parents, etc). However, since Otega's brother is already a pro athlete, there is probably less need for Otega to take care of his parents financially, so he won't have to just chase a bag. Now, he may still turn pro if he decides that is what is best, but it is less likely he feels he HAS to do so just because his family is relying on it.

That is false. A good bit of 2nd round picks are getting guaranteed contracts. Some are getting 2 way deals with guaranteed money. If Oweh can somehow get to the top 45 projected, I think the threat is real that he won’t be back.

This is a good draft for SG/SF, but I believe Otega will make it into the top 40-45 picks.
Most of our posters think Oweh is sure to return, I’m saying there is a greater chance of him staying in the draft right now. Hope I’m wrong, I really enjoy watching him play.

If you can get a guaranteed contract I think you got to go, if not then back to school and take the 2M or so.

Going to be a exciting next few weeks that affects a lot of teams.
Good thing is right now it's not like the end of the season if people stay in the draft.
I'm sure most programs are already planing for anything that happens.

You still have people in the portal, and the people that drop out of the draft.

I misspoke when I said only first rounders have a guaranteed contract. Second rounders may get a contract but aren't guaranteed to get one like a first rounder guy. The collective bargaining agreement mandates all first rounders get a contract but 2nd rounders it is optional if the team gives a contract or not and what the length of the contract will be.

Which mocks? Just checked Yahoo, nbadraft and ESPN and he's nowhere to be seen.
This is the thing that drives me bonkers. I just checked all the reputable (not to be confused with "some guy on Twitter or YouTube") sites...he's 59th on CBS. So, the last pick on one board. I swear, some people have a hard time grasping this.

I am not so sure we get Oweh back. He could easily make the right impression at the combine and get a top 40 pick status.
Fortunately, this seems like a deep draft. Otega has a lot of competition for those 2nd round spots. I’m believing about 50/50 for an Oweh return.
There is absolutely ZERO chance he makes top 40. He'd have to jump 30-40 spots to get there. That's not going to happen. There are three years of data and film on what he can do. A few days at the combine aren't going to change that much.

Shedeur Sanders thought he was going #1 and went fifth round. Do mock drafts really mean anything? It’s like whoever they have winning the championship before the season starts. Means nothing
